Media Pro SE & C1 Catalogs
I can't open capture one catalogs. How do I open catalogs from CO 9.

Is not possible and also not provided 0 -
The marketing page says
"Let Media Pro SE keep track of the location of your files, across all your hard drives, CDs, or media cards. Searches can be done within the current catalog, open catalogs, recent catalogs, or across all catalogs in a folder, and popular searches can be saved for later use."
But you can't search the catalogs of a sister product? Is that correct? If so that is super bizarre.0 -

Half-Sister 😊. Yes this is correct. MP is some years older then C1 cataloging-function.0 -
UCS308,
I believe when they talk about "catalogs" in the Media Pro literature, they are referring to Media Pro catalogs, not C1P catalogs.0 -
I'm continuing in my attempt to integrate Media Pro SE into my workflow. Since I use C1 in catalog mode exclusively I'm resigned to not seeing my edits in Media Pro. But I thought I could import the shots from my camera to a hard drive folder - then import that folder to a media Media Pro catalog for culling - and then import that catalog into Capture One for editing. Unfortunately, since all my image files reside on a NAS, Capture One will not import the Media Pro catalog telling me the files are off-line. This despite the fact that both Media Pro SE and Capture One 9 are perfectly happy accessing my NAS images.
Well at least I could use Media Pro SE as a master catalog of all my media. So I started to import my existing set of image folders going back to 2002. I quickly started receiving error messages that some files would not scan. They were my Nikon D1 NEF files. Even though Windows 10 has no problem displaying their thumbnails and C1 will happily process them, Media Pro SE appears to be incompatible with them.
I actually like Media Pro and have been trying to find a way to incorporate it since Phase One sent me a link for a free download of Expression Media 2. Lightroom has just gotten too buggy and slow and I would love to move away from it. But I need a full featured catalog. I was hoping Media Pro SE would provide that.0 -
I had an aha insight last spring while trying to work out some frustrations with C1 catalogs: it is better and easier to work with sessions.
First I import my images using photomechanic to folders by date. Then I start a session relating to my project - for instance India trip. Then I point C! at the folders for each date, do my demosaicing and rating. Then I create albums within the session relating to different parts of the project - for instance Delhi Agra and add the appropriate images to the albums by dragging. They stay in the primary folder and a link is created in the album.
The amp file created by C! carries the data needed for keeping image adjustments straight. It has taken me some trial and error to decide on the best settings. At this point I believe the best settings (under image) are full synch, and prefer sidecar xmp.
Now it looks I can use media pro as a master image catalog. It appears to recognize ratings, colors, and keywords applied in C1.
For me the hard part has been developing and learning a new workflow.
I was a committed Aperture user who used C1 for final RAW processing. Now that Aperture is abandon ware I am trying to develop a versatile alternative that isn't too confusing.0 -
I'm posting this before I complete my experimentation but what I found so far is helpful if you want to see C1 edits in Media Pro.
1) Get a session created with images in it using C1P
2) edit the images, (e.g make some B&W, crop, adjust color etc) just so you know they've been edited.
3) when complete w/ editing, select all images right click. Select "PACK AS EIP"
4) go to Media Pro and import the EIP images
5) MP's catalog will show the images as edited in C1. This is at least good news.
6) Next, Go to an edited image (e.g one of the EIP files) and right-click it and edit it in C1 (C1 should be in Sessions mode).
7) C1 will open the EIP file (which contains the raw file and all the edits) and allow you to continue to edit it where you left off in step 2. When done, exit C1 and return to Media Pro. Now, in Media Pro, the changes just made might not appear right away but they will eventually. You can regenerate preview which helps too (I haven't figured all this out yet).
What does this mean? Well, from what I can tell, if you want to use MP as your catalog , and you want to see the edited images in MP (as edited in C1) .... then you will need to put your images into Sessions and convert to EIP (converting to EIP may not be necessary for all I know, but I do know it works for me).
Personally I like the EIP concept. It reminds me of how NEF files used to store edited full resolution JPG images of the raw edits, if the raw edits were done in Nikon Capture NX2. (I did this 10 years ago and used Photomechanic as my browser. The Nikon Capture NX2 edits showed up in Photomechanic). Anyway, having all the edits and the raw file in a single EIP file probably has pros/cons I haven't thought about but at least the edits appear in MP.
No I haven't even thought about if I want to leave the C1P catalog for MP. I have 85k images to deal with in my C1p Catalog and I'm not sure how I'd go about this, but at least a "sessions" based C1P workflow seems to work with MP.
Anyway, thought this might help some folks out.0 -
Let me chime in: my findings are you don't need the EIP format. Media Pro uses the info stored in the .cos files that are stored with the images - provided you use sessions. If you want to see changes to images you've made in C1, it suffices to hit Cmd-B (or go to the 'Action' menu and choose 'Rebuild Item').
It actually works quite well. It took me a while, coming from LR, to switch to the sessions workflow but it actually suits my commercial work (event photography). For all other stuff, I'd like to see a catalog function within C1 that actually works 😉
I haven't yet tried the interaction between C1 and MP re. variants. I suspect they won't import in MP but if anyone tried and wants to chime in...0 -
Emile1,
I did get MP to import sessions but it didn't consistently show edits done in C1P. No idea why because one time it worked and one time it didn't. But with images packed into EIP first (in C1) I seemed to have better luck importing into MP.
My big problem is that MP doesn't appear to show variants created in C1. This is a deal breaker for me. Maybe I missed something, but in the C1 session (before importing to MP) I created a variant and converted it to B&W. Then I imported all the images in the main folder into MP and the variant never appeared. Ugh.
Also, the thumbnails in MP don't seem to reflect the cropping I've done in C1. However, when I double click on a thumbnail image, it does accurately reflect that C1P cropping.0 -

Do you still experience these issues? Are you on Mac or Win and which versions of Media Pro and Capture One are you using?
Media Pro only shows adjustments for the Picked Variant inside Capture One, not the second or third etc, unfortunately. To see adjustments for other variants inside MP you will have to make them a Picked Variant - in C1P right click the variant and select "Pick Variant" from the context menu.0
