Ordering seems to ignore filetype suffix
When showing thumbnails on the right, in the past the sorting took the filetype suffix into account, so IMG_4567.CR2 was ALWAYS put before IMG_4567.JPG. That no longer seems to be the case, and the files are totally mixed up. Sometimes the CR2 version is put first and sometimes the JPG is put first.

You should be able to sort the files into alternative orders.
When displayed vertically there is rarely enough space across the top tool bar to display the control tools. You may nee to widen the display area column width to have access to them.
Has the order slipped into "Manual" for some reason?

I have selected 'filename' sorting, as I always had in the past (going back to version 3). I tried choosing 'extension' and then 'filename' in case the upgrade from 8 to 9 had somehow messed something up, but it didn't help. The ordering of files with the same name but with a different extension seems to be totally random. 0 -
Michael,
For clarity here, you mention "when displaying thumbnails on the right".
Does this problem only manifest itself when displaying on the right or does it also apply with the browser at the bottom?

Interesting. I just checked that now, and it is a problem both when the thumbnails are on the right and when they are at the bottom. 0 -
Hmm.
I have seen the "Order" shown flip to "Manual" quite often recently.
I'm not sure why it should to so in my case but in theory if you, for example, drag an image from one place to another in the browser the sort order would need to be set to "Manual". Perhaps a cursor passing over an image "snags it" for a second and then does not move it - but might be enough to have the sort method reset?
If that were the case in both bottom and right side positioning it would be consistent.
But you may have something else - and I may be seeing the result of something else that I have not yet recognised.

I have checked that the sort order is not 'manual' a number of times, just to be sure. It is DEFINITELY set to 'filename'. I have raised a support case, and sent a screenshot, but at the moment they are having difficulty in reproducing the problem. 0 -
Ok, my next thought is that for some reason the internal file references in the session or catalogue DB files are somehow not synchronising as expected yet not trashing everything either.
Could try verifying.
Alternatively if you are scrolling up and down the list is it possible that the display (for whatever reason) is just not keeping up with you and you are not seeing the list sequentially but in bits ?
