Levels Auto Adjust not working with Styles applied

I don't use Styles or Auto, and I haven't really thought abut this before, but - to me - this behaviour makes some sense.

Auto will by definition change settings included in the Style: I would not be surprised if Capture One was written to respect the Style's settings over Auto, on the basis of an assumption that if you've picked a Style, that's how you want the image to look.

Now I realise that by that same logic a Style would lock all the sliders too (I assume it doesn't! 😉) - but I can still see some sense in it.

Might be wrong, but it's a thought.

I brought this problem up quite a while ago and was assured that the issue would be passed on to the engineering team.

    I don't think they listened...

    I agree with this analysis.

In fact other than an initial "I wonder what whether Auto might do something I would like?" I don't really see that Auto offers much part way through an edit. I mean, what would be the purpose?

If I want to see what happens from scratch once more I can either reset the variant or create a new unmolested variant and Auto that - then preview what my Style might add to the result.

On that basis the question about whether or not it should work one way or another becomes somewhat academic.

In fact, from my personal perspective, irrelevant. However YMMV, as they say.

Yes, like I mentioned that the Auto Levels works quite well enough (compared to Lightroom in this respect).

And since I am on trials, I tend to "try" as much as I could. Not a big deal. It could be a bug, which they could or should fix. If this is a design philosophy, then I tend to disagree with the decision.

By the way, does any of Phase One support team read the forums? I have posted several questions and raised some issues with responses from fellow members. I don't feel I got a response from somebody from Phase One. Hopefully, somebody from the company reads and relays users experience or feedbacks.

    Thanks.

I may give another try with 8.4 someday.

    Thanks everyone.

If you want an official, properly-investigated response to a question or an issue, you need to raise a support case.

I am on my last day of trial on C1 Pro 8.3.3 on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

As suggested, contact Phase One for a official response. You also can contact an Ambassador. Would make sense if you plan to purchase. 😁 (see link in the signature)

Thank you for the feedback. I honestly never considered that options.
