☹️ For the record, I am disappointed at Phase One for not meeting their projected delivery date of December 20 for C1 3.6 for Windows. I upgraded to C1 Pro, and purchased a new Canon 20D to replace my existing Canon 10D, both with the anticipation of continuing to utilize C1 to process RAW files. How realistic is the new January 15th date, and what is the liklihood that date will slip also?

Likewise disappointed - during the past month the release has slipped another month; not a good sign.

The problem for 20D users is that we are stopped in our tracks wrt C1 and forced to look for alternatives. In fact, I'm now using CS ACR quite productively (thanks also to Bruce Fraser's book on RAW workflow with ACR) and may end up staying with that rather than upgrading C1 as I had previously planned.

Here's what I don't understand: why didn't Phase One provide a patch for 20D support? That way, the many 20D users could have continued to work productively while looking forward to the new features, rather than being angry that the new features are holding up the most essential thing.

Another intresting note is that while the Windows 3.6 version has been delayed, Phase One has already gone ahead and released an update to the Mac version (now at 3.6.1). Rather interesting don't you think?

But seriously though, while it is frustrating not to have native support, I don't think we should start \"bashing\" the Phase One development team. I'm sure they are doing their best and besides they've done quite well with C1. I like it a lot and I'll even wait for the 20D support.

Yes, interesting about 3.6.1 for Macs. And interesting that previous announcements gave a specific date for the Windows version, but no longer.

I presume that Phase One knows its customer base, so it seems most likely that there are relatively few 20D/Windows users like us - otherwise it's difficult to understand why Phase One would leave us stranded for many months.

According to the poll at the top of this forum, the 20d is the largest camera base that replied to the poll, by a large margin. So it's clear that Phase One does not know it's user base. They're taking the largest user base and making users wait, at least the windows users.

Too bad as C1 really has been a good tool for me and these delays show me that there either is a problem with the development or maybe they're short staffed.

I hope the Jan 15th date holds.....

i am a professional photographer. if i do a shot and the client asks me 'when will the pictures be ready to collect?' if I tell him in a week - they are ready in a week!

If that means working everyday 8-10 then I do it. if it means working bank holidays - then I do it.

to be totally frank - i hope all at phaseOne had an awful christmas because they were at work - catching up. you have let alot of poeple down. I have three foreign shoots waiting to be processed from my 1dsmII and my 20D.

PhaseOne - get with it - you are a joke!

NIce to see some christmas spirit eh?

I personally hope all at phase one had a wonderful xmas and a great new year, and are nicely refreshed after the holiday season so they can hit the 15th January date suggested.

and I also know if as a professional I didn't have raw processing software then I would either not be shooting raw or would not have upgraded my camera

whatever! a day is a day is a day... doesn't matter what labels are put on it. we have a good time as a my family when we want to not just when society tells us to.

    but back to the point:

the software is late. i work hard and expect my suppliers to do the same. phaseone are a let down. why on earth do you support them when they are plainly late?

furthermore I shoot with a 1dmII, 20D and 1dsmII. so i have some shots from my shoots - just not 16MP ones! nor do i have ones from my 20D which due to its size and the efs 10-22 lens was used in a custom housing - there are no alternatives to this - nor is there an alternative to the 1dsmII. if phaseone had said the software would be out in jan then i would not have told the client they could have their shots in december. plain and simple. and don't start saying i should not be shooting in RAW - thats just a insult 😉...

would you feel the same if your paycheck was not delivered by the postal serviceon time? would you wish the postman a happy xmas - hoping that he rests well over the holidays so he can deliver your pay check after his break?

phaseone said the software would be released in december ❓ r.

    i hope phaseone are embrassed.

-Having written code myself (and being a semiconductor design engineer in real-life) I can fully understand the difficulties in designing software (or semiconductors). It is non-deterministic and very hard to predict especially with subtle bugs and intermittent problems. So I can't really fault PhaseOne for the fact that time-delays happen.
-However, I do expect a heartfelt apology and a deep appreciation of the difficulty that phaseone is causing its customers. All I have a seen is a comment to \"see the press release\". I find this to be cold and dismissive. I would be much happier if PhaseOne would tell us what the problem is and how much longer it will take to fix.
-When the december deadline was missed the first response by PhaseOne was to change the press-release on the afternoon of the \"release-date\". There was no communication leading up to that date to suggest there was a problem. It would have helped a lot to say, Hey we are finding some obscure bugs and may need more time to fix this.
-Like I said, I can understand that problems will come up. I just need to know that PhaseOne cares about its customers and is working to fix the problem. I need to know that PhaseOne is putting all of its engineering effort into fixing this. A dry comment to \"see the press release\" does not make me feel \"warm and fuzzy\" and leaves me with a bad taste in mouth and a bad impression of PhaseOne.
-I hope someone will respond and work to prove me wrong. Thanks.

No one is happy about any delay gettig your product and if Phase1 said it will be ready in June and surprise you with an early release we would be very exited and said WOW Phase1 are very professional.

However this should not be a complaint as delay are inevitable and i love the comment from Richard the pro photographer well, 1DSmkII and 20D, mmmm...... does he always get the photos in time regardless? I don't.

What I was annoyed about is not the delay in the new release but the fact that I spent £25,000.00 on a new P25 and you cannot even shoot from the pc let alone some annoying bugs with the original version.
and then to learn that the Mac version is out already.

Well I hope that we are not disappointed with the new release, and a Happy New Year.

    Hi Ulf
Not sure why you are directing me to this thread
as it is a combination with firmware and software
both have a few glitches which i have already reported 2 months ago and you have replied to me saying that they will be sorted in the new release

anyway do you mean that the camera firing is a firmware and not software issue.

by the way there isnt one camera in the market (pro) that cannot fire from the pc very inconvinient as i shoot hundreds of products and to be frank i Never imagine that this feature is not included with a camera of such magnitude when I bought the P25, so if this is the case when can we fire from the pc ???

    regards

Yes it is firmware based and not software based.
And there is also examples on cameras that can not fire from host and examples where the function was not integraded from the start.
Function is available right now for Hasselblad V and Hassleblad H. Mamiya 645 and Contax 645 is out on beta testing and I have got indications from R&D that this should be released to public next week.

    Dear loyal Capture One customers,

We are very happy that you use our Capture One software and that you are at least most of the time 😉 pleased with it.

On behalf of Phase One, I would like to stress that we are not dealying our Windows version because we enjoy to dissappoint or make our customers unhappy! Phase One takes your work very serious indeed, which is why we made a decision not to launch an application prematurely. We are aware that right now it is difficult for you to see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, Phase One is working very hard to finish our Windows 3.6 version, and we take full responsibility for broken promises and delays. We apologize for the inconvinence.

We hope you all had a Merry Christmas and that you despite a turbulent year still believe in Capture One and Phase One. Phase One has had many lessons learned in 2004 as well. It is important for you as well as for us that Capture One is the best product on the market, and that it is innovative as well as reliable and that Phase One offers the best support for our customers - This is our target for 2005.

Thank you for your patience, comments and concerns, we know that you do this because you are pleased with our product and want to help. We appreciate your support.

    Best regards,

    Trine Voss

I wish there were more customers like you, who understand the difficulties of writing software. Unforseen problems often result in delays. This is common place in every walk of life. There's no one alive who hasn't experienced problems or delays that have caused them to miss a deadline. The Phaseone development team has worked very hard to satisfy everyones desires and that is not an easy thing to do for a small company, whose customers, encompass the world. I am relatively new to Phasone and I've seen this company do alot to make its customers happy. I have seen fair treatment, that surpasses anything I have seen with many other companies. The problem here is way too often people jump the gun and purchase cameras before support for those cameras is added, as opposed to the other way around. Wait for the support. Then purchase the camera. Phase One proposes tentative dates for new software upgrades and often these dates are taken to be written in stone. Which as you have pointed out is not the case and rightly so. 😄

Charles, I for one completly agree with you and I congratulate the development team and all at phaseone for providing 3.6 to us

And for providing it as a free upgrade too! Many companies would see it as a further sales opportunity and make users pay to upgrade.

    Respect where respect is due!

i am really shocked to see people supporting Phase1 for not delivering on time. what's the deal? do you like waiting for hours or days in a restaurant for your food? the longer you wait the bigger the tip you leave?

and as for 'The problem here is way too often people jump the gun and purchase cameras before support for those cameras is added' NO the problem here is that Phase1 said their product would be ready at a given date and it isn't. I find your comment reasonably offensive.

No I do not sit very long and wait in a restaurant. Bit on the other hand so is the food just made not invented in the restaurant.

A computer program is programmed, andvprogramming is not so easy so you can say that the program will be finished on a given date. You can make an educated guess (that can be either right or wrong).

Phase One has made a very poor guess, and are now suffering from their angry users.

    Dear Charles Medina
I am not here to defend Phase1 nor the angry customers but the point is that if you sell a product it has to be what it says on the box otherwise you have a good case and it makes no different how hard the company works to fix the bugs they cannot sell a product as it will be considered defective and the maximum you can do is take it back for a full refund.
I myself took to court a large company some 5 years ago for selling me a NLE card with too many bugs - the judge in the case said that he is sympathetic with the effort of the seller but the product is defective hence the money back - but this is for many of us not the solution.

The point is that if Phase1 never to release another upgrade we would be happy or not with the product and carry on using it as it is but sadly we over the last few years got a bit spoilet with all this upgrade hungry and some will be inevitably dissappointed.

My personal concern which makes me angry is the fact that i cannot shoot from the pc despite the promises and even now half way through January as they said its not available.

What makes its worst is that in their naivity the give you a date which they shouldnt because as we know fixing bugs is not always possible making us very frustrated

Finally despite the few glitches i wouldnt take my P25 and CIPRO back because I love them dearly

    Hello,

I do not want to support PhaseOne because I am as interested in the 3.6 as everybody here. But… Where it is posted that the date would be Jan 15th ? I have read in their site “MID Januaryâ€. This is a tentative date. “Mid January†can also be 14th and 16th .

    I will wait.

    Regards.
