Capture One lost part of folder structure
Hello!
1. I transfered my CO-Catalog on a new Notebook.
2. All picture-files are located on a NAS.
3. I changed only the name of the catalog.
4. After installing CO I started the program and pressed the alt-key.
5. Selected the CO-Catalog which opend imeadetly.
6. On the first view i could see all picture files - very good.
7. BUT: CO lost a part of the folder structure. The old structure was: R:/Media/Bilder/Fotos/YEAR/Folder-by-date.
8. NOW: alls YEAR-folders are disapeared only a list with each Folder by date.
9. CO is producing the preview-files again which are still in the CO-Catalog-Folder.
What went wrong? What´s happend?
I had the same problem (a bit worse at the beginning of 2020).
I appologize my basic English and you can also answer in German.
Thanks
Andreas

Regarding point 8, this is due to a setting in the Library tool, Show Folders Hierarchy. Enable it.
Regarding point 9, I do not have an explanation. Maybe somebody else.

Hello Andreas,
I tried to respond a while ago but could not access this reply area.
I have discovered that Capture One does not like empty folders when you ask it to import a complete folder tree. An empty folder appears to be any folder that contains no image files at its level in the tree - but may contain sub-folders (child folders) that do contain image files.
On import the folder structure would be totally corrupted but links to the correct location would be maintained. this behaviour is very strange to say the least!
The solution for me was to put a small image file in every folder that was regarded as empty by Capture One. A very time consuming process for me and I suspect for many people who use extensive folder trees for organising image files.
See my attached example for further explanation. If my explanation is clear please let me know. If it is just confusing please let me know that also and I will create a more detailed document.
I hope this helps.
Regards
John Sumner

Hello Andreas,
It's been a while since I submitted my response to your problem with the folder tree corruption. I am just wondering if my solution was clear and if it was any use to you.

Hello!
Sorry I´ve forgotten to answer. All problems are solved. Thank´s for all suggestions for solving my problems with the folder structure.
As I imported my catalog CO didn´t show the single years in my folder structure:
R:/Media/Bilder/Fotos/YEAR/Folder-by-date.
Instead I could only see following structure:
R:/Media/Bilder/Fotos/Folder-by-date.
At the end I Paul showed a very simple solution:
In the LIBRARY Menue [...] I had to to select "show folder structure".
Quite easy if you know this.
I think Capture One should be adapted and
a) shows full folder structure immediately
or
b) should ask if it should be shown or not.
Best regards

That's good news Andreas, glad to see it's solved for you.
I use that "show folders hierarchy" command but Import still ignores folders that have no images (only sub-folders with images).
It also has no way of collapsing back every level throughout the folder tree and I have to then collapse each level manually - very tedious with a large folder structure.
I will be submitting a feature request related to this issue.
Thanks for responding.
