Constant error message about "unrecoverable error"
I keep getting this error messages and I think it's just with one session in particular? (I don't currently use the other sessions and catalog a whole lot.)
I even lost all my healing edits with one of the photos (though strangely I didn't loose any of the other edits in that photo or with any of the other changes in the other photos.These are the kind of bugs I was hoping would get fixed before going on to the next major version. The error also makes no sense to me. "A readonly database?" How have I been able to make changes at all if it is a readonly database?

Not a message I have ever seen before.
It reads like the system was trying to WRITE a read only database for some reason. That seems odd.
The specific session is not a direct link to a backup database by any chance/ Or something like that - maybe a real sessiondb file but saved somewhere that the system settings identify as read only?

If, for some reason, that was a backup file for the session database file that was being opened the chances are the backup file would be read only. Or at least that is what I would expect for a backup file.
So that would be something to check.
If it's not a backup file then you may have some permissions issue.
As I am not a Mac user and have no idea about what iCloud might do with files I would suggest that you create a "Submit a request" Support case and in the meantime, hopefully, a Mac person will drop by and be able to offer ideas based on experience.

I don't think it's a Mac issue since there are files from about 15 apps in this folder that I don't remember have this problem with.
Backup files are very different on a Mac using Time Machine since it's a whole different environment from browsing files in the Finder. You don't really accidentally open a backup file by mistake.

Stephen I don't think I get this error message anymore. What version are you on? The only error I can remember currently getting is from trying to sync sessions over the cloud because I guess C1 amazingly doesn't work on the cloud but I don't recall getting this particular error now.

I am seeing this error for the first time now as well. I am using the latest version of V21.
It's occurring when I try to edit a session on a new external Samsung T7 SSD drive. It sometimes pops up immediately upon opening the session database. Other times when I try to remove a file into trash. Other times a minute or so after I've done some edits on images - which are then not saved.
Some background: I photographed a tethered youth sports job onto my MacBook Pro as a session. When I returned home I drag/dropped the entire session folder onto the T7 drive. When I plugged the T7 drive into my iMac and attempted to open and work on the session database I continued to receive the "attempt to write a readonly database...this session will now close" error.
After muddling around and unsuccessfully trying to solve the issue I decide to drag the entire session folder onto my iMac (ie into my internal iMac folder structure). This seems to have solved the issue. So I can only figure that the problem has to do with the T7 drive. I just don't know what.
The T7 drive is formatted APFS. I've checked the "ignore ownership on this volume" option for the drive as a shot in the dark solution. But nothing seems to help but working not he session database from within my internal iMac drive.
I'm open to theories....

Hi, same thing just happened to me with latest C1 21 and external drive. Was yesterday working on that session and I always back up my work drives onto the server and today I keep getting that same error.
Tried to copy the session I had on the back up server (which I could open without a problem) back onto the external SSD - same error.
Copying the entire session including all folders into the Picture folder of the Mac worked. I wonder if there is a permission problem caused by the Mac OS and external drives. I am on a M1 MacBook Pro running Monterey.

Possibly, but it would have to be a newer permission problem because I've been running my catalog and sessions off an external drive for some time and not had this problem.
I am guessing the problems lies somewhere in the steps this I took this photo job. So somewhere in the shooting tethered to the session on my Macbook laptop, transferring the session off the internal Macbook drive to the external, and then trying to open the session on my iMac off of the external drive. It is not a workflow I use often and haven't for a long time, so I don't know how long the issue may have existed.
I have submitted a request with C1 devs but an answer may be a long time coming as they are probably inundated with requests/tickets from the new C1 V22 release.

I am not sure how to even change a database from write to read other then setting it that way in the Finder. Also if it was read only why would it be possible for me to make *any* changes to photos?
I am not sure what you mean by "direct link to a backup database." I saved the folder directly in the iCloud folder which is has write privileges. I check the different folders in this session and some of the photos and they all are set to read and write privileges.
