Images are appearing in C1 with a slight crop before I do any manipulation.

Most likely what you are seeing is lens correction adjustment.

yep. It's Hide distorted areas in the Lens adjustment tools. Slide the Distortion slider to 0.  Or untick the "Hide distorted areas".

Thanks! My EOS RP corrects for distortion with the RF 24-105 lens, so don't think I need C1 to do that correction too.

    Brian,

Any jpg images coming from your RP will have the Canon lens adjustments embedded (I assume. My Canon kit is mostly older older and does not have software lens correction data to send to the camera. The "pocket" products do apply the corrections to the jpgs.)

For RAW files the interpreted RAW data from  the sensor does not include specific lens correction data. That is stored separately.

In most situations for modern cameras and depending to some extent on the manufacturer's own policies, Capture One may offer a Capture One in-house generated lens correction settings (By Lens name), or use the Manufacturer provided Profile (Manufacturer profile). If neither of those seems to be available then a Generic profile may be deployed.

If the profile supplied from whichever source identifies that edge corrections are deemed to not match quality standards or need to be cropped because distortion correction produces and image area that is not a rectangle then an automatic crop may be applied to present just the acceptable area not the distorted parts.

So if your Lens is corrected with "Manufacturer" settings then the crop you see if the one recommended by the manufacturer. You can accept it, change the crop or simply allow C1 to crop outside the image area if that works better for you.

I hope this helps in some way.
