So how would you want this to work?

    1. Have Capture One import only the cropped image?
    2. Have Capture One import the whole image but automatically apply a crop to it?

The disadvantage of option (1) is that Capture One would be throwing away data that the camera had captured, and deny you the possibility of rethinking the crop to include more later.

I dont think 1 is possible to a RAW. Of course number 2 is the way I am asking for. C1 should read crop metadata embeded in the raw file and apply the crop accordingly. You should be able to reset the crop to full sensor width/size and adjust it later.

Check how Lr and others are doing this.

    Hi,

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

Those have been forwarded to the Product Management team for further consideration.

Adding another voice to the request for this. Please support across all brands. I use aspect ratios for Canon R and Fujifilm GFX and would really like to have the non-destructive crop data retained and applied at import – otherwise shooting with a specific aspect ratio in camera is pointless.

I agree, have the same problem. I always crop my photo's to 4:5. While taking them with Canon camera's I have an option to add cropping information and I'm able to get a live view on how my 4:5 composition will look like after cropping. However when I upload my photo's to CaptureOne my saved cropping information is nowhere to find. It's very frustrating. I'm sure it's a simple function to add and it's a necessary function for photographers to make the workflow smooth. I'm surprised this function isn't available in no.1 photographers' Tethering Software.

Any plans for this? This is major pain point for me also. I love everything about C1 and have been using it exclusively over LR now for 1 whole year but I am surprised that C1 still can't manage in camera crop like LR does.

I shoot Sony and Fuji GFX. I have set my Sony to 4:3 but I need to adjust my crop in post on every image and it is hard to go back to the same crop that I had used when taking the shot. On Fuji sometimes I shoot 1:1, sometimes 16:9 and the same problem comes. Please look into fixing this. Thanks.

    What are you talking about?

This refers to crop for Raws, as jpg have the crop already applied to them. The edit starts with the raw data and c1 applies on top of the raw data it's default curves and profiles for that camera and lens combination.

The crop data is embedded in the raw exif data, it is as easy as reading them and telling the crop tool to apply the ratio.

The devs don't care about this function apparently as it has been requested for years...

Not sure why are you overcomplicating this... Lens corrected or not, the crop is a crop and has nothing to do with the distortion correction. And I don't think anyone writing here is expecting a 1:1 match with what they see in the viewfinder. If some small part of the corner is missing due to lens correction, so be it, I personally dont care.

What I do care about, is that if I go on a photo trip for 2 weeks and shoot with different aspect ratios in camera, some images in 3:2, followed by some in 1:1, followed by some in 4:3, followed by some in 3:2 (and so on, you got the point), across different days, sceneries, compositions, lenses, etc., when I come home and I import the images (maybe a month later after the actual photo shoot) to have the crop I used in camera respected by C1 import process.

If I shot 2k images, there is zero chance (after 2 weeks or more) I will recall which image was shot with which crop at the time of the capture.

As I said, the data is in the exif. Here is an example exif data from an image on my R4, cropped to 4:3 in camera

    Image Width : 9600
    Image Height : 6376

    Sony Crop Top Left : 528 20
    Sony Crop Size : 8448 6336

    Sony Image Width : 8448

Agree this is a simple request. If crop info is there in the exif, apply it as a starting point. No auto crop applied to the center of the image. The poster above already showed what's available in the image.

    Bobby,

The current method of applying a crop to a RAW file edit in C1 is the Crop tool.

Unless you are proposing an additional method of cropping the display of a RAW file an automatic invocation of the Crop tool would be required.

Does the Exif data for the crop take into account any lens adjustments? If it does, would that mean that those adjustments and only those adjustments could be guaranteed to provide the crop as originally set in camera?

If so, does that mean that, for example, changing any lens adjustment parameters could, in effect, invalidate the crop points pre-set, simply because that point may not be where it was before? Or might conflict with some other automatic cropping settings required by the lens adjustment.

If one can always assume for all camera and lens combinations that the Sony settings in the Exif fields will be acceptable when the RAW files are processed by another application, then fine. No Problem.

But if it may require some adjustment then it will require some careful thought about how it is implemented in order to avoid making some people happy and some people unhappy. And the remainder confused about the results they are seeing.

    +1 on requesting crop support.

Just realized that C1 did not apply the crop embedded in Fuji XT4 RAW files when the "Take Square Images" option is selected.
