i would not set the expectations too high. After all, they have not managed to support metal so far.

And my concern is they might blame the user for the poor performance while it is already proven M1 is faster than nearly all Apple Intel chips (except Xeon)

I haven't been following the details of this new Mac processor. I am due for a new location tethering computer, I've been using a 2015 13" MBP for architectural photography. I know to avoid first gen Apple products but do all important apps like C1P and PS need to roll out new ports first?

Bernhard Mutter/ They probably need to support Apple Silicon soon cause there are more Mac users than Window users.

photo by FA/ They cant ignore Apple Silicon especially if Apple announce more powerful desktop or laptop.

Edward Caruso/ Developers need to port their software for ARM. We are talking about a whole new architecture which is not even compatible each other. This is why we need to wait for ARM version of C1P.

Developers need to port their software for ARM. We are talking about a whole new architecture which is not even compatible each other. This is why we need to wait for ARM version of C1P.

For many developers that will be as simple as recompiling their code using the tools supplied by Apple.  Others will have a harder time.  I haven't a clue in which end of the spectrum Capture One will fall.

As for waiting... if Apple did a decent job on Roseta 2 and if Capture One code follows Apple guidelines the existing Capture One code will work on the new hardware.

Well as far as performance goes, I have one on order so I guess I will let everyone know in a few weeks.

This morning I had updates for the Affinity suite: "Full compatible with Big Sur and fully optimised for Apple M1".

I have no way to test this, but Affinity seems pretty straight.

If Affinity can do it, surely C1 can.

Affinity is more like Photoshop, not LR CC. Even Adobe is not planning to support LR Classic so far.

I know nothing about software development, but I simply note that the CEO of Affinity stated that it had taken them "less than a day" to adapt their software to the M1 chip.

I have no idea about what they had to do to adapt their programs to Big Sur, but apparently it's been done - by a relatively small firm which charges >AUD80 for its software.

As to what Adobe does: I live in an Adobe-free universe, so ...

Affinity ALREADY have ARM based software for iPad and that's why it's easy to adapt to Apple Silicon.

On the other hand, C1P never had ARM version and they still don't support Metal instead of OpenCL. It's a huge difference.
