Panorama and professional opensource file formats
ImplementedHello,
I'm a bit shocked that I'm unable to open and edit flawlessly my 27000x6000px files in $400 USD Capture One Pro, but applications like Luminar, Exposure X6, Lightroom, can easily open and edit them. I think it maybe boils down to program not optimized for previewing that pixelsize, but I find it strange as Capture One actually supports wide range of medium format cameras with lots of megapixels.. So my first wish is that panoramas and preview rendering get prioritized. It needs to become A LOT faster at this. I waited 30 seconds for a tile to update in Capture One, while it renders on the go in every other application.
HDRI, Open EXR (Opensource) formats needs to get supported down the line. Just like PSDs and TIFFs, we don't want to flatten files to a non-layered file and lose edit history just because we want to do final edits in Capture One. If you like people to Abandon Adobe, then give them the tools.
Capture One doesn't support 32 bit float TIFF? It sees the file but can't preview or it. I wish this is possible.
It would be awesome if Capture One could read and edit Affinity Photo's project files just like we can with Adobe's .PSD.
Why .PSB isn't supported yet is one of the weirdest things ever. It's basically same as .PSD but can save bigger filesize than 4GB. I got hundreds of panoramas stored as .PSB (gigapixel) from previous Photoshop work. We need this.
And last... If I make a HDR stacking in Lightroom and saves as DNG (I think it is 32bit DNG), this DNG doesn't appear in Capture One. If I convert a RAW file to DNG, this will appear in Capture One and I can edit it. I got hundreds of big panoramas stacked in Lightroom which I can't edit in Capture One. This is a headache because I need to keep both Adobe and Capture One side by side. DNG HDR or DNG 32 bit is a must.
Those hundreds of HDR DNGs from Lightroom doesn't get imported when transferring images form LR catalog to Capture One catalog. So in reality people are breaking their workflow/catalogs if they convert from LR to C1.
This is the essential "must have" new feature if you really want to advertise the flawless transfer from LR to C1. In my case Capture One didn't import any of my 32bit TIFFs, HDR DNGs, PSBs, etc. It became a mess and I had to stick with Lightroom as catalog application and edit my files in Capture One.
With yet another €30 increase in Capture One's upgrade costs, it's getting harder to defend having both Capture One and Lightroom because of panoramas and such. Since I can't open my panoramas in Capture One, then it would be the first program to go if it boils down to a choice next Covid-2021-year. I have requested this since 2017 at Phase One forum and chat, and now in 2020/21 at Capture One's forum. I think it's wiser to focus on big improvements like this and not getting more thrifty small tools as the panels are quite full already.
We have no issues finding a panel to edit contrast anylonger, but we also need to open our files...!

Hi Aleksander,
Thank you for feedback on Capture One - we appreciate the time you've taken to contribute towards the development of the software.
I have forwarded your comments and suggestions on to our Product Management team as something to consider in a future release. Hopefully your feedback contributes towards a future version of Capture One.
Though we cannot comment on future releases and the features to be added, we recommend keeping an eye on this article - click Follow next to the title of the article to stay up to date with new features and improvements.0 -
I really like the tools in C1 but I totally 2nd Alexander's comments for slightly different reasons.
My main problem is being able to edit my renders from a 3d package using 32bit exr files (sometimes multichannel). Cryptomatte support would be great! as such I cannot viably look at using C1 for production work which is a shame but some of the tools in there would be great on exr/hdr images (I probably don't go over 8k pixel size very often)

I'd also love the be able to input and output EXR files in Capture One (export especially). Is there currently any 32-bit float support in Capture One? I'm using a slightly older version and haven't found it possible.
