You market a Fujifilm specific version of Capture One, but as yet (release 14.1.0) still no ProStandard profiles for Fujifilm cameras? When will you be bringing these in for the X-T4 and X100V?

You have the Fuji Film profiles.

Only Fuji cameras users get those.

As I recall there is a special processing path for them.

    Good evening from Italy.

I have several cameras from Nikon, however, the two most needing the ProStandard profiles would be the D6 and the D4s which work well alongside; as a third option, the D3s (yes I have - own - them both, I'm writing a guide on Nikon cameras)

    Many thanks in advance

Thank you for the ProStandard camera profile support for the Canon EOS R through the latest update!

I now also need the ProStandard camera profile support for the Canon EOS 80D.

For those people referring to the existence of Fujifilm film simulations as a basis for NOT needing or prioritising the creation of ProStandard profiles (for not so much as a single Fuji camera as yet) presumably they don’t properly understand the difference between these ICC profiles and what Fuji film simulations do?

Having Fujifilm film simulations is of course great if you want to maintain the same/similar ‘look’ as you got from the in camera JPEG’s, or use this as a starting point or inspiration for further editing, but that’s really NOT the point of ProStandard ICC Profiles (or at least the explanation given for their purpose - see here). It’s about getting a more natural, realistic rendition of colours and tones from your camera’s image sensor as you were looking at in real life - not a like for like copy of your camera’s built in Jpeg ‘look’.

So of course all Capture One Fuji users quite reasonably expect to see at least parity with other camera manufacturers in getting ProStandard profiles (at some point - of course this takes time). Not all Fuji users want their images to render colours and skin tones the same way these film simulations do all of the time, and of course would love to see what our sensors are also truly capable of.

If I have misunderstood what ProStandard ICC profiles are about (relative to Fujifilm simulations), then feel free to correct me (but please be polite and respectful). It would be useful if someone from Capture One could chime in here on this and clarify if there are or aren’t any plans or technical difficulties getting Fujifilm support for ProStandard profiles (I know in the past they’ve been dependent on getting data from Fujifilm to enable them to make other things happen - so perhaps we should be lobbying Fuji to make this happen?)

This is the reply I got from a Capture One help request, but I'm none the wiser ... A benefit of being a Fujifilm owner and using Capture One is the full support of Fujifilm Simulations on your RAW files. These simulations, which are in fact a camera profile just like ProStandard are already "hue preserving" which is the main benefit of ProStandard profiles. Therefore, we have not yet made the decision to add ProStandard profiles to Fujifilm cameras.

"Therefore, we have not yet made the decision to add ProStandard profiles to Fujifilm cameras."

That's definitely NOT what was implied in their webinar introducing these new profiles. Scores of people asked about Fuji cameras and 'Fuji Fans' were specifically told not to worry, lots more cameras would be added. At around 33 minutes...

    @ Stephen Dixon

As far as I understand these new ProStandard Profiles they do not behave in the same way that Capture One's simulations of Fuji simulations work at all.

This CO Webinar introducing them certainly doesn't support that assertion. Which Fuji simulation treats the sky in the same way that the ProStandard profile does at around 28:00 in this CO video?

    @CM and @Stephen Waddington

Interesting but my past experiences of responses from Capture One Support is that they are frequently inconsistent with what is said by their marketing colleagues or in David’s YouTube Webinars so it neither surprises me nor clarifies what’s really on the agenda. Maybe will ask David in the chat on his next webinar!

Whilst the first part of the sentence is correct, “ These simulations, which are in fact a camera profile just like ProStandard” (in that technically that’s how they’re implemented) the remainder is patently incorrect as @Stephen Waddington says, none of the Fujifilm simulations were ever intended to be true representations of what we actually see, but just pleasing interpretations based on how Fujifilm original film stock used to reproduce images of tone and colour - which is nothing like the same thing as ProStandard profiles are said to be aiming for!

Fingers crossed you just got your answer from someone ill informed!

@CM and @Stephen Waddington Thanks for the link to that Capture One Webinar with David Grover and Alex Flemming, one of the Product Managers for Capture One. Really useful to clarify this whole issue.

This really confirms our previous understanding of both the purpose of ProStandard Profiles and the why they are every bit as important for Fuji users (even with Fuji film simulation profiles) as they are for every other Capture One user of different camera manufacturers.

The point David and Alex make is that ProStandard profiles are really an enhancement on the process Capture One has always done when profiling every camera they support - as they have "changed the engine" behind the colour profiling process, enabling them to now produce ProStandard profiles and the process has also become "faster and faster".  Further that the purpose of ProStandard is to deliver more life-like, accurate colour reproduction, especially for skin tones and product photography, by preserving the correct hue across the full tonal range of an image. Fujifilm simulation profiles are nothing whatsoever to do with colour accuracy, and are only aimed at reproducing the specific style/look of old school film stock that comes with Fuji cameras.

They also specifically stated that in this first release they were "aiming to have between 15 and 20 profiles available for the most popular cameras" as this would "cover more than half of all images being processed in capture one". Note this even includes old models like the Canon 5D Mk II for this reason. In response to chat messages specifically asking "what about Fuji’s" (at 34:12 in) David responded (Alex agreeing) "Don’t worry, we are going to keep adding to this list" and "Don’t worry Fuji fans".

Bearing in mind they also gave an example that if Nikon came out with a new camera tomorrow, and Capture One would support it, it would automatically get one of these new ProStandard profiles. So given this release has also just added support for the soon to be available Fuji GFX100s it should soon be evident if this has a ProStandard as well as or instead of the ‘Generic’ profile. So clearly ‘popular’ Fuji cameras will get new ProStandard profiles (just not every model in existence) and all new models will if/when they become supported.

Anyway, I have messaged Alex Flemming direct to confirm once and for all - He ought to know!

You have added several ProStandard profiles to 14.1, but not the Nikon D4. However you added the Nikon D800 which is same vintage. I am a pro and have been switching to C1 from Lightroom, but I -really- need the Nikon D4 profiles - ProStandard, plus the other Nikon profiles (flat, landscape, monochrome, neutral, portrait, standard, vivid).

Please ask the developers to do what they need to do to add the Nikon D4 profiles.

    Thanks,
    Steve Weinrebe
