New functionality request : EasyStart

Because my catalog is very big (> 80 K pictures) it take a long time to start it when a lot of parameters are actived : "All Images" Selected, complex filters, Sort order by size... CO is working (a lot), but the GUI freezes until end.

CO retains the last parameters of catalog. So, we can't change anything during start-up.

I propose you to implement an "EasyStart" option : when activated, opening a catalog is always the simple way : "In Catalog" selected, no filters, Sort By name,... So the catalog is fast opened and after, we can can select the library, the filters, Sort By...

    Not all of us use In Catalog. I never store my images that way in my main catalog. What a lot of users do is to make sure when they close a catalog that they have not left it at All Images, but perhaps at a small album of something. It may then start more quickly.

    I choose "In Catalog" acs default start because there are no picture in it and so, CO21 start very fast.

    EasyStart functionality do exactly what you say : go to a small album (or In Catalog...), so CO21 start very fast next time. The only difference is, this is automatic.

    For newbie and overbusy people, it's very important. The first time GUI freeze during start, user thinks that CO has bugs...

    So load the screen with something the user can do things with and then they will be happier waiting for their chosen collection of images to load ...

    That seems like a good idea. I think some other applications do that already so people may expect the same. 

    There could be 3 options (one of which can be chosen as the preferred default).

    Quick - opens without selecting anything and then prompts for what is to be chosen.

    Last used - re-opens what was last used preferably at the point at which it was closed down.

    Coffee mode  - were is starts everything and to be used when arriving at the desk and intending to head off for coffee, breakfast, a day out ... ;)   whatever the user knows may take some time anyway.

    Hi Etienne,

    Thank you for your post.

    In general, it is recommended that the Catalog size should be around 10-15k of referenced images for optimal performance.

    Anyway, I have sent your suggestion to the product management team.

    Well that is first time I have seen such a clear recommendation on Catalog size from CO, off now to split my existing catalog into 3 - by year? by subject? Have to think about it. ;-)

    Lily, thanks a lot for this information.

    Splitting my catalog is not easy, because I don't know today what I need tomorrow.

    But my prob is only during starting when gui freezes for a long period.

    When CO is working, it takes only  2-3 min to select the picture in users collections. For me, it's very fast.
