Can we have an update improving this?

Same here with my GFX 100s, Mac OS 11.3.1 :

tethering works fine (except some controls take more time than others, depending of the lens I have on),

    RAF files read perfectly,

BUT Live View doesn't work at all (same "camera does not support ptp" message)

    Following.

I have the exact same issue. Very frustrating when working on bigger commercial shoots.
Tether works fine and I can see the liveview but none of the controls work from there and most importantly, it’s not possible to capture with the liveview window open.

    Please fix this asap

I try to tethering in Capture One with Fujifilm GFX 100s doesn't work. I tested my Fuji XT3, Phase One and Sony FX3 and they work perfectly with the same orange tether cable. Do you know what problem is this?

Still problems with Tethering shooting in Capture One Pro 22:

1.) The Auofokus with the GFX 100s and the 32-64mm doesnt work.

2.) Shooting is very very slow (up to two minutes until the image is saved)

    Why is that?

The quickest way I’ve found to have the live view tether working with the gfx 100s is to turn the camera off then click the live view in C1 then switch camera back on, works instantly, however there are still caveat’s working with the controls in the live view panel of C1, some lenses perform better than others with live view tether activated, AF button on C1 control panel doesn’t work at all, but the focus arrows work quite well if you have to use them, in certain situations when say camera is booked over a set and it’s to high to get up there and get a focus using the camera, as for triggering in these situations we use the Fuji remote app on our phones, it’s way quicker than using the dedicated button in the C1 live view panel, I find if we trigger the camera using that button for some reason it can take minutes for the files to appear in C1, (we have a modern editing machine with high specs) so don’t know what is going on there. At first when using the gfx and C1 I thought I’d most likely only use the camera in certain situations because of the limitations between C1 and the camera, as it works flawlessly with my D850 but after adjusting my workflow for the Gfx it’s not so bad now that I know the limitations. That being said hopefully there’s an update in the future to resolve the issues. Funnily enough I also have quite a few issues using a phase one back with C1.

Hi Darren, thank you for your tips.

I have upgraded to C1 22 and Windows 11. I have not yet tested the light view but the transfer of the files is now much faster. I can now click, click, click, click and go from the camera to the PC and only the very last image is just arriving. It is a significant improvement.

I also noticed that C1 does not see the camera when you start it and the camera is already on. I just turn it off and on and it works.

What I have noticed in C1 22 + Win 11 is that I am no longer open a series of PSD files at once. It prompts a dialogue asking for assigning a ".PSD" extension to the photoshop application but this was already done. The result is that I now need to open multiple files from the file manager instead. It is probably something that will be fixed soon and it is outside the topic of this post.

hi all. interesting about the time it takes for the files to appear in cap one after shoot. Im also having that issue. Tried new cables and everything but it does not seem to get any better, it also does not help that is seems totally random...  everything from 2 sec to 2 min. Will try cap one 22 see if it gets any better but if not, @darren muir what's the name of that fuji app? The only one I can find on my phone has gotten horrible reviews and people say its impossible to get to connect with camera, the one called "FUJIFILM camera remote" Do you mean your are using that app to capture in capture one? (sorry its just totally new to me and might be an alternative if CO22 does not work)

Wanted to drop in a comment here based on my experience with the GFX100s in the studio with C1.

At first it was not working at all, just not being recognised, but since updating the C1 22 and removing all other versions of C1 it's much better. I'm on an imac with 10.15.7 (Catalina)

Finds the camera right away, all camera controls work through C1 except aperture but I do that on the lens itself (mostly using the 40-11am which is beautiful to shoot with).

Transfer speed was insitally very slow, up to 30secs sometimes (I am shooting RAW compressed setting) but more recently it's closer to 5 seconds.. sometimes the buffer needs time to catch up.. I have not noticed a difference shooing with capture folder on external USB drive vs on the imac itself, the transfer time seems to be more determined by the camera itself and cable.. tether tools works great.

    Only issues are:
I cannot take a photo while in live view as I can with my Sony Ar7III.
Using Profoto lights I find the connect unit doe snot always fire all the lights, this happens with Sony too.. I would say at least 1 in 10 shots one of the lights may not fire.. I have tried all manner of different channels and using some lights on slave.. still.. but it's okay I still get the shots and it's worth it for the quality.

It's an incredible camera, the resolution is a wonderful thing to have but I am also finding the colour/tone really incredible and very consistent.

We are very frustrated with current situation. We made tests with C1 20 together with the previous model GFX100 and all seemed to be tolerable. As C1 announced a support for the GFX100S in version (Enterprise) 21 we started to plan the whole workflow in mass digitazion on that combination. Unfortenately we were not able to test the combination before the acquisitions. Now it seems we have to go back to Canon-Nikon production line if there is not going to be a major change in better usability.

    I'm in a similar situation.
    GFX100S + tether tools cable USB C to USB C + Macbook Pro M1 Max + Capture One 22.

It generally works, but shooting with live view open sometimes the camera gets hung up and need to wait 5-15sec to get the file in capture one, maybe next shoot is transfer immediately but like every 5-10 shoots it stops.
I'm also having issues with live view on other ports of the Mac and with tether tools extension cable, it says that doesn't work with PTP device.

It's hard to tell what it might be because it seems quite random

Have you got any other applications running on the system at the same time?

Especially anything that might be thinking of the camera as a data device or a storage device if you have a memory card installed?

    0
  • Filippo Guerra

right now i'm trying without memory card, seems to work better even thought still happens sometime. Don't have any other "camera related" apps, tried to shut down google drive but didn't changed.

When it happens the camera transfer led blinks, I can tell that is something happening between the shot and the transfer to the macbook. Tried different cable but same issue.

someone tried to change some settings on the GFX100S? Like boost mode or enable/disable charge through USB?

  • Filippo Guerra

Ok, after a couple of hours of trials it seems that the main problem is the live view. The transfer time with live view off is quite normale (1 sec more or less), with live view of is around 10 seconds. Don't know if the problem is with the camera or the software...

  • Rachel Waters

I am also having the same issue. Except this happens all of the time.

    GFX100S + tether tools cable USB C to USB C + Macbook Pro M1 Max + Capture One 22.

Camera gets hung up and will not fire. Turning the camera off and even dropping the battery does not stop this.  Seems to be random- sometimes it works fine, other times it's hung for about 20-60 seconds. The red light blinks the whole time. I got a rental body to test and it does the same thing so it can't be the camera- has to be the software, but I'm able to figure out the problem...

I am having a similar issue with C22 - GFX 100s and Windows, There are significant delays between capture and transfer.  It is not the PC or Cable, only impacting on transfers from the GFX to PC.  I have noticed a significant spike in file size during transfer from the camera to the PC from 200MB to upwards of 4GB when writing to the local drive.

Force quitting and relaunching is the only way to get the software to respond, after launch the image has transferred, sometimes.

Solution to try: buy an additional tether boost pro cable to plug into your existing tether cord which allows you to transfer larger files.

I do major commercial photoshoots and was having similar issues with tethering not working properly with Capture One 21 while using the Canon R5, usb-c. They said the file size of the images is too large for the standard tether cord transfer capabilities. AKA the tether cord can only transfer so many Gbits at a time and therefore if the files are too large it freaks out. They suggested getting the The TetherBoost Pro USB-C Core Controller Extension Cable extends and enhances the Type-C signal an additional 16 feet (5m) to move your images up to 10Gbits for the fastest and most secure way to transfer your files from your camera to your computer. I never ended up doing this because I returned the Canon R5 and was planning to switch to the Fuji GFX 100s - but after reading these posts I am hesitant. If anyone ends up trying this solution and it works I would love to hear about it.

Go to the site and see how much Gbps your cord can handle because the longer the cord is the less Gbps it can transfer. For usb-c to usb-c it is as follows:

    https://tethertools.com/product/tetherpro-usb-c-to-usb-c/

    • 3′ / 0.9m – USB 3.1 Gen 2, 10 Gbps, 3A
    • 6′ / 1.8m – USB 3.1 Gen 1, 5 Gbps, 3A
    • 10′ / 3m – USB 3.1 Gen 1, 5 Gbps, 3A
    • 15′ / 4.6m – USB 3.1 Gen 1, 5 Gbps, 3A
    • 31′ / 9.4m – USB 3.1 Gen 1, 5 Gbps, 3A

When you add the tether boost

    https://tethertools.com/product/tetherboost-pro-usb-c-core-controller-extension-cable/
It supposedly increases whatever above cable you have by 10Gbs. (Again I have not tested this on the R5 or the Fuji but I think it is worth a shot).

If you have the USB port on your computer and not the USB-C port the numbers may vary so look on the website to see. My computer has USB-C and the fuji uses USB-C.

    My computer: Macbook Pro, 2017. Version 12.6. Processor: 2.9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. Memory: 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3. Storage: 2TB.

Hi I tried this with with the tether boost cable and it madr no real difference as far I remeber and it didnt work at all with the tether tools extension (which is sometimes handy to have that amount of tether) I've managed to live with it this far after an initial adjustment period that wad frustrating (coming from a near perfect tether solution of a D850) and also a phase one back on an XF body, (which funnily enough could also through out the occasional tethering issue).

Have you spoken to a Capture One rep and what have they said about the Fuji issue?

Supposedly with the Canon R5 and Capture One 22 you can wirelessly trigger.

Do you know if the Fuji can wirelessly trigger or has a planned update for that?

I'm using a Tethertools USB-C to USB-C cable 4.6mt (from the specs should be 5Gbps max) + TetherBoost Pro USB-C Core Controller Extension Cable, but still having issues with live view + transfer.

I might try the TetherBoost Pro USB-C Core +  Tethertools short cable (the 0.9mt supports 10Gbps).
I'll let you know if this helps.

The way we get round the triggering wireless issue is to use the Fuji mobile app. Works well especially when tethered 9ft in the air on a cambo. :)

I cant remeber exactley but we did use it with both live view window open on another monitor and obviously the C1 software open for ingestion/edit. There was still a pretty long lag, so the way we work it is set up the scene with the live view on our tether monitor and then close it when you want to take the shot remotely with Fuji app

Hi, I've an update on this.

I've ordered a tether tools usb-c to usb-c cable (30cm / 3') since it's the only one that supporto 10Gbps (all the other lenghts stops at 5Gbps) and coupled with a TetherBoost Pro USB-C Core Controller Extension Cable, also supporting 10Gbps.

I can confirm that this setups works perfectly, I can shoot with live view window open and without lag. If I try to use a longer cable (even if coupled with the tetherboost) the lag is very long.

I have fujifilm gfx 50s ii and live view works but AF is not available, which is kind annoying. It has been two years since camera was introduced and it is pretty sad that AF is not working in live view...

    Update from our studio:

I tried the Fuji camera remote app which does trigger the camera via bluetooth when tethered (and not tethered) but does not work in Live View. Also if I take a shot when in Live View in Capture One the camera does not focus and then will not take any more photos after that point, so need to stop live view every time which is really frustrating..

I have contacted Fuji UK about that and in going to see the lovely team at Teamwork in London that stock a US cable brand Area 51 which seem to do very high quality cables.. will most likely pair one of these cables with a tether block and see how it goes!

    https://www.teamworkphoto.com/online-store/software-computers/tethering-cables-and-connection/area51-los-alamos-xl-pro-right-angle-usb-c-to-usb-c-cable-9-5m-31ft/

    https://www.area51tetherco.com/product-page/2-pack-groom-lake-pro-usb-c-right-angle-to-usb-c-4-5m-15ft

they do sell higher speed cables but they note re: Fuji GFX:

"Higher than 10gbps not recommended for the FUJI GX100/100s, as these cameras do not yet support any Gen2 10gbps speeds"

Seems that Capture 1 - 3 years later has still not developed AF for the GFX 100s.

Are there plans to do this for GFX - it is quite important.

No issues tethering my GFX 100s with C1 EXCEPT no ability to use autofocus controls in C1. All other controls perform well.

Tethertools cable and latest update to C1Pro (!6.4.4.etc).

    Macbook Pro running Sonoma 14.5

Wasted plenty of time trying to find anything in the GFX manual that might be a clue....wasted more time trying to find an answer here.

Thanks for the XPro app suggestions as I can use this workaround but it seems pretty ridiculous to be having this particular kind of issue.

    Any suggestions are

    appreciated.
