Trying to delete persistent keyword.
I was trying to delete some key words by right clicking and selecting "delete selected key words..." A dialog box opens confirming that I want to do that and then a message comes up that says something to the effect that the key word can be deleted from 24 of 27 images. What where the 3 images that the key word cannot be deleted from? When I try to delete the key word again a dialog box comes up that says "The action cannot be applied to any of the selected items." Even if I select every image in the catalog prior to requesting the delete. How do I get rid of the unused key word when Capture One doesn't seem to recognize it, or I cannot find the images that it was associated with? Any ideas would be appreciated.

It may be that the keyword is attached to three images that cannot be edited in Capture One. For instance, the images in question might be smaller than the minimum size of 512 px. (Bizarrely, you can create an image file in Capture One that has a size smaller than that but you can't edit one. You could for example, have output a small JPG 400px wide, and if you had it set to include keywords, the 400px file would have keywords from the raw file added to it. But you wouldn't be able to take them out again.)
You should be able to find the images in question using the Search facility: for instance if the keyword in question is "Argentina" you could search for "Argentina" in the search field in the browser, or in the Filter tool.
You could then perhaps determine what the issue is with the three files. If they are too small, you could (a) delete the files, or (b) if you want to keep them, you could consider whether you can just recreate them without the keyword - for instance if you had created the files yourself by processing a raw file you still have, you could process it again without including keywords - or (c) you could accept the situation and not worry.

Robert,
Have these keywords created using C1 or did they come from an other app (Lightroom, for instance) ? In the latter case, C1 would not delete the keywords. It seems to, but after quitting and reopening C1, they are still there. The only workaround I found was to create my own keywords database, ignoring the "catalog keywords" list.

Thank you, Robert. This is from a catalog made only imported from camera cards so there were no keywords associated prior. I found that closing catalogs and shutting down and restarting C1 seems to have done the trick. I am also having issues with C1 freezing my computer at least once or twice a day. That is another issue that I am working to resolve by possibly having to rebuild the OpenCL kernels. Possibly the two issues are related. I will update if I notice anything changing after trying to sort out the freezing problem.
Yes, in another catalog I have already noticed that video files that were imported from LR do not allow keyword deletion.
Ian, thank you for your help. I tried to search for the files, but only from the keyword filter, and it was as if C1 did not recognize the keyword. It was as if C1 was stuck halfway through the delete phase.

Problem Solved.
Keywords were persistent in the library and would give the message that the deleting the keyword could not be applied to any selected items when I tried to delete it and the keyword would remain in the library. This would happen even if I selected all images in the catalog.
A keyword search would not turn up any variants that the offending keyword belonged to.
I figured it out! The keywords I wanted to delete from the library were associated with variants that were still in the Capture One trash. That is why the did not show up in a keyword search and could not get rid of them or change their heirarchic position either. Once I emptied the trash, I was able to delete the keywords.
This is what happened. I had a batch of photos from a shoot. I batch assigned some keywords. I then went through the batch and put several images in the trash. When I tried to rearrange some of the keywords associated the the shoot, I could only rearrange the what was in the regular catalog folders and the images in the trash caused their associated keywords to be persistent and unable to be re-arranged or deleted because the action above action was not applied to images in the trash. The images in the trash did not show in a keyword search. Once I got rid of (or maybe selected - which I did not try) the keywords in the trash, I could either re-arrange the associated keywords or delete them.
BTW the freezing issued was resolved with a help request. The solution involved turning off hardware and graphics acceleration. I have an older machine.

Delete all the files relevant to specificed keywords which were created and connected in the LIBRARY lately.
Empty the trash bin under the LIBRARY.
Go back to the METADATA then you should be able to delete mistaken keywords successfully.
