Moving Catalog Media to a New Larger External Drive and Reducing Catalog Size

    Hi Timothy,

"Relocate" should work, AFAIK. C1 v21 didn't change anything in that type of action.

You can delete most of the oldest backups, and keep the latest only. But this won't reduce the size of your catalogue that much : what takes place are the previews.

The "right way" would have been to move the files from within C1 by dragging to the new location. Then C1 would have known what you did and no further work would be needed. It sounds, though, like you moved them using Finder, which of course is invisible to C1. (Wouldn't it be nice if C1 had better Finder integration?)

Yes, you can use Relocate, but I've found that method pretty cumbersome and ended up moving the files back to their original "Capture One knows about it" location using Finder, and then redoing the move from within Capture One. Or, if you still have the original disk with your files on it, just erase the new volume and do the move from within Capture One.

Having done a Finder move once, I'll never do it again. Just as easy (drag and drop) from within C1, and then I don't have to worry about C1 losing track of anything.

Robert's tip on deleting old backups is right on. I wish C1 could present a window showing all backups and letting you delete the ones you don't want, but it doesn't so we're stuck doing it manually.

    Many thanks for the replies.

Robert, I've deleted the backups within the package except for the last.  Not sure why there were backups there in the first place, as it appears that backups are normally located elsewhere.

Abbott, the only problem with 'moving' the files within C1 is that it removes the files from the old drive and moves them to the new drive (even if the new drive already has the files.)  At least, that's what it did on C1 20.  I have not yet tried this on C1 21.

I suspect that I'll have to use the 'relocate' feature, but I don't understand why C1 doesn't allow for the same media files to be kept on different external drives, meaning, why isn't the path to the images 'relative' instead of 'absolute.'  ?

    Thanks again for the help.

    Tim

I have made a move from one SSD to a new one within C1. Now the Catalogue doesn't have any of the adjustments. Is there a fix for this?
