Insta 'Story' Crop Modes
I have created a custom 9:16 crop aspect ratio, but when I want to apply it to an image it defaults to 16:9. And by the best of me I cannot 'force' the re-orientation of the crop using a landscape-shot source image. This shouldn't be so difficult.

The default 16:9 crop (and all crop ratios) should flip between 16:9 and 9:16 depending on which way you elongate the crop sides, so I don’t see the value of a custom 9:16. ?
In the Crop tool check there are no dimensions set in the Size boxes that might be forcing the vertical orientation.

Hi @gb, I'm sorry but this isn't working on my end, its not flipping, not sure what I do wrong, this isn't intuitive like a flickswitch 'landscape' / 'portrait'. Whatever side I pull or push, it stays the same orientation..
And when I rightclick the crop-context window, I cannot remove the dimensions, they come back when emptied.
Add: I just worked it out: you cannot change orientation if the box exists, by dragging the corners or sides. You have to actually create a new box by clicking elsewhere in the picture and dragging it into said direction you want the orientation to be.
Sorry, but this wasn't obvious, I did search for information before posting this!

You should be able to change the orientation of the crop by dragging BUT how that works out may depend on factors related to any Output Recipe or Export Recipe settings you may be using.
For example using ratio like 16:9 you would be looking at dragging a corner half way (more or less) through the LONG SIDE of an image in order have an output flip from one orientation to the other.
For your needs it may well be quicker to simply click and create a new crop in the way you have already discovered.
