Sony A7 IV not being seen by Capture one 21?

"Looking exactly the same" is not enough to be taken in charge by Capture One. We have many other examples where the sensors, body, etc... were the same but going from version N to version N+1 of the camera did not allow to be taken in charge by C1. If A7IV is a very new camera, it will be necessary to wait a little before C1 support it (I don't know anything about Sony cameras).

    Andrew,

I suspect there may be some confusion about the number of different models/variants of the A7 nomenclature.

As far as I can tell V21 (i.e.14.x.x.x) does not support that particular model.

Solution: just change the EXIF field "Model" to "ILCE-7M3".

There are a bunch of tools but the quickest I found was exiftool: just drop the ARW files into a temp folder where you've put exiftool and run "exiftool -model="ILCE-7M3" -overwrite_original *.arw"

If you don't wish to use a command line editor (Terminal on the Mac), there are other options for Mac users. I tried a couple, one didn't work at all.

I found that Exif Editor (available in the App Store) worked really well for multiple images. Just changed 'ILCE-7M4' to 'ILCE-7M3' and >380 ARW files were done in a couple of mins and ready for import to Capture One 21.

Thanks for your suggestion of EXIFTOOL. I'm getting the below minor warnings (I'm guessing because of the resolution differences between the A7 III and A7 IV. Is there anyway to address this in the command or does it not matter?

Warning: [minor] Entries in SubIFD were out of sequence. Fixed. - _XXXXXXX.ARW
Warning: [minor] Oversized SubIFD StripByteCounts (29666304 bytes, but expected 25958016) - _XXXXXXX.ARW

I switched to capture one because of the path provided with the free Sony version. I purchased 20 and upgraded to 21. I buy a new camera and now its all obsolete? I find this pretty disgraceful. Really pissed off by both companies right now.

It has been this way, forever, with every commercial RAW converter - sometimes new camera support misses one version of the software and necessitates an upgrade  to the latest version. There has to be a cut-off at some point, and some people will fall foul of it.

Nothing new, or unique to Capture One, about this - it's the Real World.

    But...

Capture One is completely transparent about its release frequency, and - seriously - what do you think a new release means in terms of new camera support for old releases? I started with Capture One at release 3 (and I've been reading complaints just like these, since about the same time): should I expect them to update that to read files from my Canon R5?

The problem is here is purely a caveat emptor one: an entirely foreseeable state of affairs to anyone who is prepared to put some effort into thinking it through.

You guys need to own your bad decisions, instead of blaming them on someone else.

I find it misleading that the C1.21 licence purchase only really lasts a year or less because it does not support Windows 11 and as seen here it does not support any newly released cameras.

I understand if new usage features are limited to later software versions (otherwise no one would ever buy the software again once they had a copy) but to restrict based on operating system or camera model is cruel in my opinion.

I have just received an email with a flash sale for July offering 50% off capture one pro 22.

Even at half price I will not be upgrading from C1.21 because I am disgusted by the lack of support.

In complete contrast, Davinci Resolve is a one off licence that comes with a purchase of a speed edit keyboard and receives continued, regular  and free updates. It's free version is also superb and also works great as a photo editor.

Capture one has the best implementation of tethered shooting for full frame cameras but other than that it is of very limited use compared to other software. There is free software that can perform better HDR and panorama stitching which is reportedly poorly implemented in C1.22.

I feel like i've been turned over having paid full price for C1.21 which became obsolete almost straight away. I don't see the software lasting if they carry on treating customers like this.

Thousands of others must feel the same way. Such a shame.
