Where is the code or whatever you need to go ahead with the discount on "all cameras"?

The e-mail that I have received states that my software will be updated for FREE in April to On 1 Pro and mentions that at the moment everything remains the same until the beginning of April, it also says that I can request the update in the store of the page web, but it does not clarify more.

I interpret that today there is no way to update and we will have to wait until April.

In my opinion, updating for free in April does not imply any loss, on the contrary, it benefits me. Later, when a new version appears, 23? I will decide if I want to continue with C1 or go back to LR+PS.

Al final la decisión es mia.

I'm not sure why I would need to mess with all that disabling or what have you. Other software, I don't have to do that. Davinci Resolve, for instance. Takes very little time. Capture One goes in circles. Too much work to get things done.

Antolin, Thank you for the response. I think I have it figured out thanks to combing your message with that of Capture One. I could not get the message to make sense that we only had 3 months to buy something, but yet in April it would be free. I believe, I have to pay upgrade to all camera Capture 22 and when the new one comes out in April, we then get that free. Thank you.

I bought version 21 of C1 for Sony months ago and owned it in perpetuity, I took advantage of the offer that offered me to upgrade to version C1 2022 when it came out. So it happened and my software was updated, now I hope that in April it will be updated to the Pro version.

From your answer I deduce that you haven't bought C1 yet, if so, please note that C1's e-mail states that from January 18th it will no longer be possible to buy the single camera version and you will have to buy the Pro version.

But I find it shocking that you get the email if you don't own a C1 license.

I hope we are interpreting the e-mail correctly.
    Greetings

    Marty,

What's your exact situation, are you on a trial version? I reckon than you can only buy the Pro version. I doubt though that anyone who is now buying the Pro version will get a re-fund in April, if that is what you meant.

I own a camera specific Capture One. I received an email from Capture that I, not anyone else on the planet will ever be able to upgrade to the next Capture One specific camera version. I.e. Capture 22, 23,24, 4001 in 200 years, etc.
Ok, so the email says that now, I must upgrade to the all camera version, which means paying a lot more money. Does this make sense? The email also says I have 3 months to do this or lose the discount. I will probably now wait years to upgrade, so Capture One can get the same money, but it will be a long time from now. Thank you.

Upgradig C1 always is a horror and horribly complicated. Why not a button "upgrade to 22", link to paypal and rest automatically.

Really annoying to download new version, install, then I enter last licence key, it always tells me "no valid licence key". I enter my email address and password, it says "wrong password" although it is correct. So I alway only do every second update because it is so annoying to update...

Well, it doesn't seem that complicated to me, you just have to understand that you only have the right to three computers running C1, if you want to install a new version on one of them you have to disable your password for one of your computers on the C1 website. This system seems more correct to me than linking the installation to the motherboard or to the processor as it happens in the OEM versions, where a hardware update eliminates your license.

I received the email stating that I would now have to buy the "all cameras" version, I can no longer get just the camera brand specific version, but there is no link to the discounted price to be able to do that. That's goofy. Does anyone have the link? Did all of you get an email telling you to go do something with no way to go do it? Thank you.

I'm on version 20 and got the same email as well. If I log in to my account and click upgrade license I get prices that seem to be with added discount compared to the normal store. 169€ instead of 219€ that seems to be the normal price for an upgrade.

    Marty,

Maybe in the future with the removal of the Camera Specific licenses things might become easier.

Bear in mind what you are really doing when you buy a perpetual license via an upgrade is simply obtaining a license that allows you to run the new version AS WELL AS several older versions if you choose to use them.

Your Account is given a new license code and the old code is de-activated. You can activate your existing installation with the new code. Or you can download and install the new version and activate that  - on whichever devices you choose to use. You do not have to uninstall or overwrite the older version.

You have total control over your account and activations - something that is probably even more important to people working in Studio environment with the possibility that needs may change daily.

For most users, it is likely to be a once-a-year activity. This is good because it is not frequent but not so good, perhaps, if one does not use the process regularly and so lacks familiarity with it.

SFA. But why isn't that explained during the upgrade process anywhere??? Never read: You can't upgrade a running version but you have to install a new version separately and buy a separate licence key...

    @Reinhard John

There are several articles in the Community SFA Pages that address the process to follow  - which has sometimes changed between versions - hence why there are several articles.

If you have a version of C1 installed and wish to install a new update to the same version the default installation program will suggest simply updating the existing installation. Should you wish you can install in a different (NEW is best) folder and so retain both the old and the new releases. C1 do not recommend this and nor do I UNLESS the changes are so great that you would feel more comfortable keeping the older release available in case you wish to quickly revert to it after you have looked at the new one.

To run the update routine you would have to make sure you do not have C1 running on the system at that time (you will be prompted to close it if is running). When you have finished the installation and restarts C1, NORMALLY it will just restart. SOMETIMES the changes in a mid-life version update may require Catalogues and Session files to be updated the first time they are opened and maybe one or two background tasks have to run but in general not much more than that.

When the VERSION changes, a new activation code is issued when you purchase the update. This is an immediate change in the license you need to use even for your existing installation(s) before they will verify against the license checking server.

So you would de-activate whatever is currently active in your account by using the facility in the "Help" section of the menu in the running application (which will then close), install the new Version, start the new version and use the new activation code when prompted to do so.

If you do not want to install the new version immediately, just re-start the old de-activated version and use the new key just obtained when it prompts for activation.

Note that you can also de-activate if you login to your User Account.

If you have more than one device activated you will need to repeat the process for each device.

Once you have seen it working it only takes a few seconds for each device.

For a New version you also have the choice about replacing the existing installation by overwriting it or installing the new Version in its own folder and keeping the previous installation if you would prefer to do so.

This link provides some initial guidance:

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007791797-All-about-Capture-One-licenses

The page should also offer links to further guidance about Deactivation and Activation.

Note that my comments apply to Perpetual licenses  - subscriptions are different.

Usually, at change-of-version points, there are specific instructions provided in special situations.  For example, when taking advantage of early purchase options before the new version has been released.

These have tended to be part of the information contained in the email with the License code but I suspect that they may not always be as clearly recognisable as one would wish them to be.

Maybe that is something that could be addressed soon.

    Thank you, SFA.

Your long posting already shows how complicated this all is. ;-)

It is actually more difficult to write in detail at a level that might (hopefully) work for any enquiry at any level of pre-existing experiences (and failures!) than it is to take the required actions!

However, usually this task is not something we have to do very often, so remembering the details clearly enough to make the task easy may not be something that comes to everyone at the moment they need to undertake the task.

Things have improved over the years and of course we are provided with on-demand management of our license requirements. That may not seem very significant when we only need to change anything once a year or when we buy a new computer. But to people with multiple license needs in a "studio" environment, the option to be able to control activations is likely to be very important, sometimes.
