Capture One Catalog
Need some advice on the best way to proceed with catalogs please. All photo images going back years are stored on a Synology NAS. The Capture one Catalog is on the local hard drive pointing to the files on the NAS and there is a separate catalog for each year. From strictly a performance standpoint what I want to do is store the "Current Year" photos on the local hard drive for faster processing and then auto sync the updated files to the NAS. At years end I would remove the current years file from the local hard drive so they would now reside only on the NAS And I would start a new year on the local drive with a new catalog.
What I'm having trouble wrapping my head around is how the catalogs should be configured. Right now each years catalog points to the files on the NAS. Should the current years catalog point to the files on the local drive until the end of the year and then somehow redirect it to point to the files on the NASat year end? If so how do I do that initially? The catalog currently looks for the files the NAS. Should I export it from it's current location on the NAS, Or, do I just copy the 2022 files from the NAS to the local had drive and re-import all the 2022 images and then delete the old 2022 catalog?
This is probably clear as mud but help you can provide is appreciated.

I'm having similar issues and no one has been able to help me. What NAS did you go with? I'm at my wits end here LOL

I was planning to use the NAS for all back-ups (Capture One files and original images) but the original question above raises a good question I had not considered. I am new to Capture One and trying to figure out the best way to store and back-up the original images in a way that Capture One can find them later. At the moment my images are "in catalog" to avoid the off-line issues I was encountering when I tried to reorganize how the raw images were saved on my hard drive. But I have not been able to figure out how to back up these "in catalog" images (when backing up a catalog the warning clearly says it is not backing up images). I am trying to work through the image storage issue before I have an unwieldy number of photos. At the moment I am sufficiently confused that I don't want to take anymore photos until I get this figured out. Not sure where to get help. Any ideas/direction would be much appreciated.

EtMRS - Thanks for your earlier post regarding Session versus catalog and photo manager app. I'll give it a try.
