Transferring Session (files, ratings and adjustments) from laptop (Mac) to desktop (PC)

Have you tried simply copying the session to your pc and then opening it with C1 on the pc or importing it into an existing catalog? Of course you can export the images + adjustments on the Mac, which will result in a folder, then copy the folder to the pc and lastly import the solder into c1 on your pc, but that’s a bit more involved than the first way.

Yes copying the session to the pc works, but I need to store the original files in a different folder, because I don't want to use C1 session folder structure to store my images. How do I change the location of the original images to a place I want on the pc and keep C1 adjustments separately? Also, I think I prefer using Catalogs instead of Sessions, because I would like to be able to look at different shoots at the same time and compare the images, values, skintones, etc. I don't know how to achieve that. Reading C1 Help is most definitely not helping me. Thank you for your reply - I really appreciate it.

    Hi,

use an external, fast, SSD Drive. There you store your Session, catalogs and files. Just take care that Win and Mac can read the Disk. So, choose FAT 32 when you format the disk (unless you have spezial drivers for different formats). Then you can simply plug in the drive and work.

I also prefer catalogs. The way I work, on the "capture" Mac, I have a managed catalog—i.e. the images are stored inside the catalog (which is actually a special folder).

On the main machine, I have a referenced catalog—i.e. the images are stored outside of the catalog, which sounds like what you want to do.

In the field, I work in the managed catalog. When I get home I copy that catalog to my main machine and import it into the main [referenced] catalog. The new images show up in the Recent Imports collection, and from there I can drag them to whichever location on my "Originals" drive that I want. Very easy, all adjustments and metadata come over, and I can just continue working.

Maybe give this sort of workflow a try.

Thank you Abbott. Your explanation is so short and easy to understand. Unfortunately, the user guide is full of articles that are the exact opposite - difficult, heavy language, long and convoluted sentence structures. It just adds more frustration instead of the opposite. Long time ago this was the reason I left C1 and invested my time to learn Lightroom...

Anyway, I will try your method. Do you know how I can import easily only a portion of a Session into a Catalog. For example, I have selected 20 images out of 250 in a Session and I want to import only those 20 in a Catalog. Importing the Session gives me the advantage that the album/collection is automatically created in the Catalog with the name of the Session.
