Writing metadata to JPG

Quite a few web sites for publishing images will strip metadata embedded in uploaded images. Check that your jpegs have metadata embedded prior to upload. If yes, ask the publisher.

Jpegs are supposed to have metadata embedded. No sidecar file. Photo Mechanic embeds metadata in jpeg-files. Capture One will do that when processing/exporting an image to a jpg-file, it depends on the process recipe.

    As far as I know:
Capture One will not update metadata embedded in an existing jpg-file. Version 22 may allow process/export to overwrite a previously created jpeg-file, my version 20 does not. Metadata Sync copies metadata from the database to the XMP sidecar file, it does not refresh metadata embedded in an existing jpg.

Thanks. I have to do some more testing. I'm sure there is a flaw in my workflow somewhere.

Today, I was uploading to some other sites using their HTML form and none of the metadata is coming across.

Almost certainly their upload dialogue is stripping the Exif.

I don't think so. After the uploads failed, I imported the same jpgs into Lightroom, did a Ctrl-S and they uploaded fine. Also, I've been uploading to that site for many years without a problem. But all of that output was from a pure Lightroom/Photoshop workflow. So, somewhere in my workflow (which I am still learning after a decade in LR) I did or didn't do something that created the problem. I just have to work through what.

If you see the Photomechanic applied metadata inside Capture One, make sure to check on metadata in your export recipe.
