Clearing duplicates from Catalog
I have a folder in a catalog in which every image is duplicated. That is, it shows two of every image. I have no idea how I managed to do that. The duplicates have the exact same file names. Examining the folder from Windows shows that it actually has no duplicates. The folder actually contains over 1,900 images and thus the catalog's folder contains over 3,800. I have edited a significant number of these images. If I reimport them, I will lose all that editing. Can anyone think of another way to eliminate the duplicates?

Hi!
My solution for cleaning up duplicates is using Excire Foto. It's a powerful tool that uses KI to identify objects, persons and duplicates and can sync xmp-files with Capture One.
You can not only find exact duplicates but also different levels of similarity.

Is Excire Foto able to identify duplicates in the catalog? These duplicates are not image files, they are duplicate database entries in the C1 catalog.

I downloaded and installed Excire Foto but, as I suspected would be the case, it was of no help with this problem. My duplicates are only in Capture One.

Sorry - I thought, you were talking about real duplicates.
Did you already try to sync your folders in Capture One
Here you have to set the option to remove missing images.
and check your Catalogue integrity?
If there is an error, like in this case, you have the option to repair it.
The next step would be to export your catalogue and import it into a new one.

Es tut mir Leid but my last German class was 51 years ago. I'm afraid that Capture One doesn't see the current situation as an error. I have tried synchronizing the folder but that found no problems and made no changes.

Where is the command to Check the Catalog's integrity? Never mind, I found it and am checking it now.

I've checked it twice now and get Database integrity OK, Database structure OK, but after listing "Checking database content", "Checking document type", "Checking document type done" it says "Database check FAILED". I will try "Repair"

Says Repair was OK. I am now repeating the Verify. It says Database check OK. The duplicate images have disappeared. Excellent. Danke sehr!

I ran the verify catalog option, but I have thousands of duplicates in my Capture One Catalog. To be precise, these are NOT duplicated image files. Just the fact that they are duplicates of each image in my Capture One Catalog only.
I verfied my catalog, and it passed. Duplicates are still there.
Any suggestion on how to remove the duplicates?0 -
So, if it's not pysical duplicates - simply right-click on the library folder in C1 and select "synchronize".
Be patient and let the sync-dialogue-box do the analyzis. Then press "Sync". The function should remove all duplicates and add potentially missing files to the database.
Verifying the catalogue only searches the database for incosistencies and gives you the option to repair them.
I hope this helps!
If not: Simply create a new library and import your images again. This worked for me very well, when I had some performance issues.

Sync feature did not resolve the issue. Duplicates are still there.
If I create a new library, will my edits go away?

Your edits will be imported with the files, when you have saved them before in xmp sidecar files (check the settings) with the photos. I'ts always recommended to set it to "full sync".

In your duplicates do you see square brackets with numbers in them like [1] and [2]? These mean "variants" of the same image. You can select the [2] variants and delete them. I've created these accidentally when I had lots of images selected and accidentally pressed F3 (clone variant).
