Chromatic aberration analysis resets distortion to 0 upon restart
As described in the title I encounter a weird behaviour. Support has come back stating the issue is minor and only reproducible on their end sporadically. I however can recreate this behaviour on demand.
The workaround is easy: don't ever use the chromatic aberration analysis. The priority for me is also low. But I am very curious whether the issue is really so specific to my setup or more people recognise the same.
Edit: Found a new workaround. After performing the analysis drag/scroll the distortion slider to some other value e.g. 99 and back to 100 and now the value is stored. Same for distortion sliders already set to 0 after a restart: do not double click the slider to reset, but rather scroll/drag the slider to some other value and then to a 100.
Steps to reproduce:
- Take a photo for which the lens correction is "manufacturer profile" and the distortion correction defaulted to 100 (in my case Fuji XF16-80mmF4)
- Click the triple dot right of Chromatic aberration and click "Analyze"
- When it's done, clicking the triple dot again should show a selection of a correction named after the file name instead of "default". All the other sliders are unchanged.
- Now quit Capture One, wait till it's fully closed.
- Start Capture one again, navigate to the same picture. (It often forgets the last selection)
- Check the Lens 'Correction > Distortion', the slider is now set to 0 < this is the issue
- Double clicking the slider should set it to 100 again.
- Clearly 100 is correct and looks better than 0.
- Restarting C1 again, sets the slider to 0 every time until you reset the lens correction using

ps. it appears I'm at least not the first to encounter this: https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360014892017-Lens-corrections-resetting?page=1#community_comment_360004068198

That was me that had the issue previously. I only had that issue with a lens that did not yet have a C1 developed profile (Fuji XF16/2.8). I stuck with my work around until a lens profile was added by C1. Once the profile was added I just used it with no issues. If the 16-80 has a C1 profile I would use it (and if it doesn’t… submit a request to add it).
Sorry your having that issue, drove me nuts for the better part of a morning trying to figure it out.

You are correct, the 16-80 lens does not have a C1 developed profile and instead defaults to the manufacturer profile stored in the image's metadata. I have requested it to be added -and so did others- in the past. However, since the exif data already contains a working Fuji provided lens profile I doubt how much added value there is in a C1 developed one? Their efforts are probably better spent developing profiles for lenses that do not store a profile in metadata...
I did find a new workaround: After applying the Chromatic Aberration analysis, if you scroll the distortion slider to some other value e.g. 99 and back to 100 the setting is remembered! Somehow you have to explicitly change and set the distortion value for C1 to store it. If you leave the slider untouched at 100 it does not remember. Even when it was set to 0 after a restart and you use a double click to reset the slider to 100 it does not remember this. Again, simply scrolling/
dragging the slider to some other value and thén to 100 does get remembered... 0 -
Interesting on the workaround you identified. Useful to know in case I get in a similar situation in the future.
I haven’t given it much thought but have assumed that there is some value in the C1 developed profile (which is developed specifically for C1) verse the generic manufacturer profile embedded with the file (beyond avoiding the chromatic aberration issue). Hard to imagine C1 spending time on it for no improvement.
Anyhow, hope they get your lens in there,
Dave
