"My latest reported issue did affect many other users too. A Capture One server issue affected several subscribers from starting the software. My report was quickly answered and I was informed that a known issue on Capture One servers was the cause and that tech team was working on in. The problem got solved few hours later... but I did lost at least an hour in my workflow schedule.

I do recognize that developers team generally listen to us users, and quickly try to address severe issues in upcoming updates, but what I do not understand and can not accept is the fact that most of the latest year releases, seemed not to be fully tested prior to its commercial releases. We all should keep in mind that subscriptions are paying the development, which is great, but subscribers are not real world beta testers.

I do understand that having an up-to-date polished UI is very important (I remember my previous years as a broadcast video editor, when AVID and EDIT from Discreet did not invested on that when FinalCut started to make its own way in the market, and end up on the shelve), but a UI revision should not negatively impact so much the tool usage.

In the end, we all need to have Capture One stability back, so this can still work for both of us photographers and Capture One company.

Please keep listening to us and get on the stability track again.
We'll be very pleased with that.

    Thank You,
    Bruno C."

These two previous texts are part of a post I made on September 28th, under "Capture One 22.x Software for Windows" named "A sereis of disapoitmnets". By sugestion of user @EtMRS, I'm sharing it with a wider range of users, since I believe that a broader thinking about this, can gets us all to a better result.

Please feel free to comment and express.
    Thank you,

    Bruno C.

I find it difficult to recognise an ambition on behalf of Capture One to make C1 an application for professionals that satisfies professional requirements for the following reasons.

    1. Released versions have too many issues, even if some of them have been reported during Beta testing.
    2. Knows bugs are not fixed for years. Instead of making sure that the available functionality is working as intended, new (sometimes half-baked) functionality is added.
    3. Changes to the UX (user experience) target casual users rather than professionals. The change from a "Universal Brush" tool to multiple brush tools (that only work well for a minimal amount of layers) is just one example. Time and again, efficient workflows are broken by changes that aim to simplify usage.

I support the request to strengthen the core quality of C1 but for the abovementioned reasons I don't think it aligns with Capture One's objectives.

Thank you Bruno and others for taking the time spell out these issues. I have added my vote.
I'm still sitting on v.15.1 (for Sony) because I'm reluctant to update with all the these issues I'm continually reading about in the forums. I was waiting for them to get resolved but but they seem to be never-ending. I have 1000's of images to catch up on editing and organising but fear an upgrade will seriously disrupt this and cause me to lose precious time.
The problem is there is a time limit for when I can get the free upgrade to the full Pro version. What happens then? Will I be forced to use software with faults in tools and functions that I rely on and use all the time?

    I agree with Bruno C.

In the past, I used Aperture. Later, Apple replaces it with iPhoto/photos. My nightmare is that capture one does the same.

I am very happy with CO1 as Photo Editor/RAW developper/Tethering. But not as "fancy" application.

Indeed. And to the above you can add several issues with unresponsiveness (such as this), making working with Capture One very demanding on patience. When I need to search for a larger numbers of files, I keep a book in one hand, so that I can read a paragraph while Capture One recovers from each single search. (This is on a MacBook Pro M1 Max, 64 GB.)

My vote for this as well. C1 used to be a tool for professionals. Therefore the "professional" price. This pricing is ok if I then receive a reliable piece of software. Since about 2 years I also have the feeling that there is more focus on having some fancy features like "Live" and iPad app. Which is fine to have such things...but not at the cost of reliability and stability. Live is the best example...it would be a good addition to a professional workflow and I would be fine to pay additional 10 EUR per month for it...if it was a well thought out, reliable and finished and polished product. But it is not. It looks like somebody thought "oh we need to have some kind of cloud collaboration thing because others have it as well...lets give them an upload function with star rating....comments by the customer...mmm...dificult....lets label it beta". Sorry for being so rude but I just had an issue with C1 Live mismatching two customers live sessions and haven't heard anything regarding my related bug report since one week now. That is not what I expect from a professional tool at this price point.

I have always been promoting C1 to other people because of its superb raw developing capabilities. Since some months I am more and more dissapointed. If things dont change I have to look for an alternative when my current subscription ends in spring. But I would hate to leave C1. So please C1... become excelent and professional again!

    Juergen

Downvoted. These are not feature requests, they're faults - perceived faults (the software is absolutely bombproof for me) - and should be reported as such.

    Keith,

the request is not (as you characterise it) about specific faults. You could not submit it as a bug report because it is not meant to be one.

The request is probably best regarded as a "meta feature request" because it does not ask for a specific feature but for a change in how features are developed. It asks for more robustness and more reliability; in a sense it requests quality attributes.

By downvoting this request you are not helping anyone, in my view. Not the users who support it and not Capture One either. It cannot be in Capture One's interest that people refrain from upgrading because they are deterred by numerous bugs. It cannot be in Capture One's interest if people are unhappy working with C1 and complain about it in forums and stop recommending C1 to others and/or look for alternatives.

Keith R's contribution to this forum consists solely of complaints about other users.

Don't be sure Keith understand the request. Cambridge Dictionary says about feature : "...a typical quality or an important part of something: ". Bruno asks a professional quality of CO1.

    Sorry for my poor English....

I agree with Thomas Kyhn, that is my feeling about that user since the first time I perused this forum.

I too started out with Apples Aperture, then it became the mess that is Photos. I made the switch to LR and now I've been with CP for since at least 2016 or so.

I was on location with a client, my tech guy was having multiple issues when I was tethered. In the end, we just used the Canon Utility. It was really embarrassing. And yes, my tech guy KNOWS CP, and he was very frustrated as well.

They used to good at getting feedback from us but not anymore. They seriously need to increase more developers to focus on Capture One Pro. I stop getting beta versions for testing cause they are not doing anything. C1P still has many bugs and issues. No matter how many times I complained, they never responded.

I'm not sure where they are heading to. There are so many issues to deal with.

I moved to C1 from LR  quite a few years ago, because LR was slow, buggy and painful. C1 was a high quality fast, robust product in comparison, with excellent workflow.

The last year or so has been very testing, with bug after bug

There is a lesson to be learnt from adobe. LR became bloated, slow, because it kept adding feature after feature to appease the spec junkies.

There is a reason professional cameras are simpler than a "all singing, all dancing" prosumer models- that is they have only what you need, and they do every aspect of what you need them to flawlessly, without fuss. The same should apply to software.  We don't need more and more complexity, most of us would value anything that improves our workflow, speed, and quality.

Al this Ipad nonsense is for the kiddies, realistically, most serious photographers are editing on workstations with calibrated screens, and decent grade graphics cards.  When I look at utilisation of C1 on my workstation, it runs slowly, but doesn't utilise most of the resources available to it  More to the point, why release an IPAD version where you can't use the iPad for Capture.  How about leveling up the differences between MAC and Windows experience?

I cant speak for all professionals, but I would be very welcoming if the next few releases focused on
    - Productivity
    - Performance
    - Image quality
    - Stability

Its bonkers to add more features to software that has bugs, without first fixing the bugs

I'm struggling to see the focus on the different disciplines or engagement with real professionals, beyond the assumed elite.

I shoot real estate, and weddings, two totally different types of challenging photography.  Example: The "wedding" layout in C1 doesn't reflect my needs as a busy wedding photographer at all. Its like C1 just doesnt understand what we actually do. Session is the best-selling point for weddings, As is the flexible workspace - which works well for the distinct steps in editing a wedding.

Now for real estate, the shooting style, and subsequent groupings of shots is entirely different.  C1 could do loads to help with workflow, but in reality, at the moment, its cumbersome.  The reality is that the seamless integration of LR to PS suits Real estate photographers

I came from LR too, and I while the good things about Capture One have kept me from going back, or elsewhere, the frustrations have been more or less constant – the broken/crippled keystone tool (which has, at least, been fixed now as well as improved, if half-heartedly so), the issue with disappearing masks, the incredibly slow searching/filtering function, unresponsiveness when editing keywords, as well as more pervasive unresponsiveness when performing even small actions such as switching between tooltabs, the lack of Apple silicon optimization, in addition to which comes a great number of file/catalogue handling limitations. Not to mention Capture One's customer support.

I think this phenomenon - adding (sometimes buggy) features instead of improving stability - is not limited to C1, but can be observed in many different softwares. As sad as it is, stability doesn't sell, but features do.

You wrote "...stability doesn't sell, but features do..." and of course there is some truth to that, otherwise companies would not choose that route.

However, I believe the thus obtained success has short legs. If  features are not implemented properly and/or the software is unreliable then users, sooner or later, will complain. Beyond abandoning the software, they will create bad publicity for the software. If there is any decent competition then ultimately neglecting stability/reliability and providing subpar functionality will catch up with a company.

    YES - stability is key

But, being able to shoot straight from camera to online like and iPhone with C1 iPad is killer! I didn’t think that it would be, but it is.

Also they fixed the side by side use with Photo Mechanic, so now if you set C1P as the default editor, you get the speed of Photo Mechanic for sorting (a bazillion times faster that Lightroom or anything in existence -> using Photo Mechanic ingest) and then just hit E to pop the photo right into and already open C1P session on the PC is killer as well. Set Photo Mechanic to read RAW preview and it is a smoking setup for anyone who shoots 1000s of photos for Weddings or sports (unless on contract where someone else handles the cull and edit).

Thanks for that fix - killer!

Yes - with my super portable Lumix (used for travel for the set of Leica lenses for under $2k) C1P on PC tends to crash on closing if I have a selected photo up and click the X to close C1P. So there are issues…

With - subscription, please have a team that just does testing and bug fixes ;)

Full transparency – I've moved this post back to the general software discussion topic. It was moved in error when migrating some posts over to the new feature request topic.

As there is no specific feature request and there is a more general discussion occurring, it makes sense to keep this post in the more general topic.

    Hi Jack W,
    Thank you for your note.

Ten months past since I´ve started this post and now I feel that the major turbulence over Capture One's stability is now more dissipated.

I'm running version 16.2.2.1406 and everything seems to be acting as expected, however one still have some issues with tether when using the Canon R5, but some are the result of conflict with canons software, I'm aware of that.
So overall, I believe that we are back on the good track right now.

    Thank you!

    Bruno C.

    +1

Even as only an enthusiast, I value these points over fancy features too.

This is not against new features, and competition is partly ahead, but these four points are the basis on which everything builds up.

Bruno Calado I'm really happy to hear that you're back on track. Let us know about the tethering issues in a separate post maybe? Or contact support?

What is it you are using EOS Utility for?

Regardless, happy to see that you're in a better place with Capture One now.
