What exactly is the difference between Universal and native Apple Silicon?

(I use a MacBook Pro Max too, 64 GB, and have several issues with Capture One being unresponsive; description in this thread.)

Universal simply means that the app contains the code for both Intel and Apple Silicon:

Make sure you can see that Capture One is listed as Apple in Activity Monitor Kind column. If it is listed as Intel the "Open using Rosetta" box might be checked in the Capture One Get Info.

"I just want to know if one day I will use the full performance of my MacBook Pro max."

One day is a long time... This YouTube channel regularly tests Mac hardware with various photo editing apps and comments that Capture One isn't as optimized as other apps. For example, he mentions the Capture One claim that "Preview generation improved by 100% on Apple Silicon" doesn't live up to the promise here:

Regarding Rosetta. Here, issues with unresponsiveness are less severe when "Open using Rosetta" is checked.

I believe that C1 is native Apple silicone... not Intel.

So, the conclusion is that the requested native Apple silicon version of Capture One is in fact already included in the universal binary, except that this existing Apple silicon port of Capture One is far from optimized to take full advantage of Apple silicon processors?

    Thomas Kyhn:

Many of the bug are still in the latest versions of capture one. Tons of slow downs, etc.

C1 looks like a "apple" app in the activity monitor.

I don't think we will get to much stuff done for the desktop apple systems until they finish work with that iPad app.

In this thread, a Capture One representative claims that work on the desktop application isn't affected by the development of the iPad app. Considering that the situation was more or less the same (i.e. as bad) before the iPad app, she may be right.

And yes, nothing has changed with the latest version of Capture One.

Bump this thread, is C1 optimised for the different models of the Apple Silicon chip, ie can they take advantage of the various numbers of cores and GPU cores on the base, Pro, Max, Ultra versions? If not is it known that C1 will move in that direction? Is C1 faster on say an M1 Max over the base M1 for example?

Considering how much of the time it's unresponsive, I doubt Capture One has been properly optimized for Apple Silicon yet. (I use an MBP M1 Max 64GB.)

    I have the M2 Max Studio (12c, 38gpu, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD) – most image operations in C1 only use 1 or 2 cores =/

My 2018 Mac Mini (Hexacore Intel i7) was slightly faster and used all the cores!
