Do Smart Albums query the database each time?
Do smart albums query for new photos each time you open one or do they store their results in the catalog and update it each time? I've noticed that smart albums are quite slow. I was hoping that after the first query it would get faster since it already has a skeleton of the sql database but this doesn't seem to be the case.

SFA See that would make sense. I'm not getting that kind of performance after the initial query even without closing my catalog. Thanks for the response!

How ever it is implemented, it is what it is.
Try to avoid "Any" in your search condition.
