It is not normal. I have a 65,000 photo catalog. It takes 15 seconds to load Capture One and open the catalog on my Mac Studio Ultra and it takes about 25 seconds to open on my MacBook Pro. File a support case for technical support: Request Support

Jerry C that's so fast - my experience with sessions is that it takes few minutes on Windows to load a 20k session from SSD, HDDs are obviously slower. Why catalogs could be so much faster is beyond me.

Have you performed a File > Verify Catalog? That will do optimization of the catalog database.

Where is the catalog stored? Where are the images stored? I have a 66K image catalog. It takes 10-15 seconds to load the catalog.

    • 2019 16-inch Intel MacBook Pro w/ internal 2TB SSD
    • Catalog stored on internal SSD
    • Images referenced on external USB-C 4TB SanDisk SSD

I also have a 2017 Intel iMac and it only takes about 20-25 seconds to load there.

    Thanks folks for your response.

    Walter, answering your questions:

    1) Yes, I have tried verification of catalog multiple of times. I generally do get errors (usually, for duplicate catalog folder collections) while running verification and have to repair. Not sure if others see these errors frequently too.

    2) The catalog is stored on my Internal 1TB SSD whereas all the photos are stored in another 1 TB external  USB-C SSD (Samsung T7)

    3) Laptop specs - 2020 Asus Zephyrus G14 with Ryzen 9 4900 HS processor, NVIDIA RTX 2060 Graphics card and 32 GB RAM.

This will be a little painful but give this a try.

    1. Create a new empty catalog.
    2. Make sure the original catalog is closed.
    3. In new catalog File > Import Catalog > Capture One Catalog
    4. Select the "slow" catalog.

This will take quite some time. It will NOT import previews and thumbnails so those will have to be regenerated. Make sure you select "All Images" and let it run until it completes. For me that can take up to 12 hours for 66K images so I let it run overnight.

A few times over the last 10 years I have had to do this for various reasons as a last resort and it always remedied my issue. Performance wasn't one of those issue, but things like your constant "duplicate user collection" should go away. There is no way to tell whether that "duplicate user collection" is causing any performance degradation.

If it works, continue using the new catalog and delete the slow one.

If it fails, you can delete the new catalog and continue to use the slow one, or keep using the new one and delete the old one.

I tried importing the old catalog into a new catalog and regenerating previews. But, the behavior is the same.

I have filed a support ticket with Capture one and shared logs. Generally, how many days do they get back to us ?  It's been 3 days.

This seems like their windows app issue and doesn't seem a problem with their Mac OS app based on online forums.

My understanding is its taking longer right now due to holidays, higher volume due to new release, etc.

@...- Could you guide me on how I can share the DB file with you?

The COne Support is yet to get back to me on my ticket although it's been ~3 weeks.

Have you looked in the Requests list under your profile menu above? Sometimes we miss the email and the Request list shows a reply.

There could be other things causing slow load time. Emptying the Batch Queue folder under the App Support folder can help.

Yes, I keep checking it every other day. The last activity time keeps getting updated but there are no replies visible to me. Am assuming any internal comments are hidden to me.  It currently shows the last activity on the ticket as 5 days ag.

Did you do a File > Verify Catalog? That should optimize the database.
