the only thing you can try is to remove c1 completely - search c1 help for this - and do a clean install.

this version is for sure unique I never before experienced such an amount of issues in the last years with any c1 release.

creating the new catalog helped, although still crashing but now I cannot export any variants or original: crashes 100% time: this is unbelievable

and of course, i cannot go back to previous version, not compatible anymore it says!

Forum support, anybody can help look at this, as I cannot produce any photo in the last 48 hours???

Which release of the Mac OS are you running?

If Catalina, have you installed the most recent release of C1 V20?

You should be able to run V12 (Also look for the latest update if running Catalina).

C1 will have made an d saved a copy of your V12 catalog (or session) file.

Work done in the V20 catalogue will not be available in V12 but V12 should run. You will need to re-activate it using the new activation code provided for V20 which will work for older version of C1.

At this moment it is uncertain what causes the crashes. I suggest the following to stabilize the situation.

Choose either Capture One 12 or 20 to continue. The advantage of version 12 is that it is currently more stable. Stick to it until the issue is resolved.

Additional comment before I am misunderstood: I believe that the majority of users experience version 20 as stable, but that percentage is higher for 12 since it has had a year of maintenance.

Second, open a new session. Yes, not a catalog. You can later import the images from the session into the catalog. The advantage of a session is that it has little to no overhead, with little risk of crashing. Edit and process your images. This way we make sure you can have your work done. Because you saved your work outside the catalog, open the catalog first, and go to Export > Originals and save them outside the catalog.

In the meantime, let's do some maintenance. Open Capture One while pressing the Alt-key (some iMacs use the Shift-key instead). This opens the Recent dialog and prevents Capture One from loading a session or catalog. Next, go to File menu > Verify session or catalog > browse to your crashing catalog. Run the verification and optionally let if fix. At this point I assume you have a catalog backup.

    Observation and speculation
You wrote in your first post, that you have all your images inside your catalog, which is 550 GB in size. There are very few users who choose this route, instead saving images outside the catalog. Therefore, it is difficult to say if it relates to your issue, but it could.
Another observation: you have a Fusion drive. A great idea from Apple but working counterproductive with Capture One, slowing it down.

I hope this gets you started.

    Hi

Well i had to revert to C12, create a new catalog and attach the photo inside the catalog (vs having photo separate) and it seems pretty stable, although a bit slow again at time (quit and reopen does the trick)..

    thx

    Hi Paul

I tried with having photos on a separate USB3 mirrored drive but seemed too slow as well so for now with a new, very small catalog, seems stable with C12...

I assume it is possible later maybe with a faster (thunderbolt) drive, I can move again the photos out of the catalog on that drive? Whats the best method to do so?

Thanks for the note on Fusion drive, I did not assume this may be a problem.

    thx

Yes, you can move images stored inside the catalog to a drive/folder outside. The procedure is basically very simple.

    1. In the Library, Folders section, click on the + (plus) symbol and add a folder; this can be a folder on your local drive or external drive.
    2. Select images and drag these onto that folder.
    Done.
