What to use ? "black" or "Shadows" ?
Weird question, I know, most probably because I do not fully understand the differences between the two.
If I want to "open" a dark zone, is it preferrable to use the "black" slider, or the "shadows" one ?
What does each of them do in particular ?
Txs in advance for your help

The Black slider affects only the darkest tones in the image, while the Shadow slider affects up to the quarter and midtones as well (with less effect when the tone is higher towards midtones). 0 -

What do your eyes tell you?

Try this webinar from about 25:00 to about 31:40. David Grover explains it well.

It is going to depend on the picture. Sometime one, sometimes the other, sometimes both. 0 -
Thank you all for your contributions. - (*)Paul, for the detailed "under the hood" description;
- (*)Ian, for the link that depicts exactly the functioning (and that I had overlooked, focussing on the other videos);
- (*)Keith, for the slightly provocative answer 😊 I could simply answer that my eyes are not *that* young anymore, and sometimes need a bit of guidance to know what to look for 😊
- (*)CdC, for a rather "normandic" answer, that indeed encompasses all possible situations 😊
Now, back to the screen to identify how to put this new knowledge to work !0
