Processing images to root folder

When you set Root folder to Image folder where is it pointing to?

Hit the right arrow at the end of that line to check.

Then, further down, where is the "Output Location" pointing to?

Where are the images being delivered?

Are you using Catalog or Sessions?

Are you processing the files for further editing via, for example, Photoshop? If so which file type have you specified?

    Hey Grant -

The Root Folder is set to Image Folder and when I click the arrow it brings up the folder that houses the original files - where I'm wanting the processed images to be saved to.

The Output Location says to choose a folder - Ideally I'd have it point to the root folder as well so when I'm going through different assignments (housed in different folders) I can open a project and it will automatically be saved in that root folder without having to search through the folders in the output location.

Right now I'm using a Catalog (honestly didn't know there was an option) but I am looking into which system would be better for my workflow. I'm a photojournalist so I do lots of short assignments. My workflow is to ingest RAW files into PhotoMechanic, cull and caption, import into CaptureOne to edit / tone then export back to the root folder as jpg files which is still open in PhotoMechanic to crop and ftp out.

If you are using a Pro version you get the option to use a session (think even, project and so on - stand alone stuff as shot) and there may be some advantages to it for your needs.

This week's Webinar covered much of the topic.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdsMo0m ... hTZ6d-rNOU

In a session, because it is self contained, the default for output is its own Output folder in the provided session folder structure. You can choose somewhere else but for your need that would work better because then, being self contained, when you change the Root Folder to Image Folder it will send the output to the Image Folder rather than the Output folder with both options (usually, unless you have changed something) held within the session folder structure.

You should be able to make that work for you with Photo Mechanic - there have been a couple of other threads about that for Sports Shooters running here in the past 2 or 3 weeks.

Not also (the Webinar offers more than I can type here) that the Process functionality offers some control of direct export requirements, though I'm not sure that ftp is part of the setup. Files sharing locations are.

For using a catalog I think you will need to Choose a Folder as requested and you want to choose the one in which your original images are located.

Whether Mac or PC you should be able to open the OS Explorer and navigate to and select the folder that is your target - the one with the original images. Usually there is a right arrow to click that kicks off that functionality. In a session the location is assumed but in a catalog if working through an Album, etc. there are other considerations that may make assumption of location less clear. (Whether the image is Referenced at an external location of has been imported into the catalog for example.)

However, if you do browse to and select the original image parent folder you should get what you want albeit you may need to synch the folder when ready to see the images in C1.

    HTH.
