Unable to use clone
I'm running the Fuji demo programme. My first time using Capture One software.
I can create a clone layer, select draw mask brush, and mask the area I want cloned out.
Capture One then selects an area of the image to use as the the clone pixels, then nothing happens. I can move this point around but the area I want cloned out just remains as it was originally.
I'm sure I am missing something very simple but despite watching several tutorials cannot see what it is.
Any help in easing my frustration will be much appreciated

In my experience, Capture One almost always picks an unsuitable source. The better way to do it is first to choose a source point for yourself (with the brush tool selected, hold Alt and click where you would like the source to be). Then brush over the target area. Check the brush settings - for cloning or healing the opacity and flow should be at 100%, but it's worth checking.

That's definitely not how it should work - it should respect your choice of source location when you drag the source point around the image.

Are you still displaying the mask?
If so, turn it off and see what happens.0 -

I tried the suggestions but to no avail, however, I discovered that if I select "never display mask" on the mask menu in the toolbar the clone feature works.
I'm happy using the clone feature this way, but do I have some bug in the software?1 -
Is it by design? If the mask is visible, the feature you are trying to mask out is visible too. (Otherwise, how could you see where to paint in?)

If you have the mask on you should see a (usually) red area to tell you where it is.
Most people will turn it on and off using the M key shortcut.
You don't have to have it showing but you will need to select a source point before anything will change.
All mask areas (if you use more than one) will then select their source points from the same relative point related to the position of the starting point at which you draw that masked area.
Easier to show than to describe.

It must be a bug, because it doesn't work with the mask displayed (Windows 10 C1 build 13.0.0.155), but it's fine otherwise.

Peter - Unless I misunderstand you, there isn't a bug here. As I tried to explain above, if you paint over the area you want cloned out, and the mask is showing, then you won't see the object disappear while the mask is showing. It only disappears when you turn the mask off again. (That is how it has always worked.)
