The backup feature in Capture One just backs up the catalog database, with its information about adjustments, ratings, keywords, etc. It doesn't back up the images themselves. As you were an Aperture user, I assume you are on a Mac, so you have Time Machine available to you. You may want to use other backup methods, of course. I rely on Time Machine for backup of my images (and everything else on my Mac). I also use the Capture One backup feature to back up the catalog. although that is more for convenience than anything. I could restore it from a TM backup as well.

And as Walter has asked, are your images Managed (stored inside the catalog) or Referenced (stored in folders outside the catalog)?

Hi Walter and Ian, my images are managed (stored inside the catalog). Workt well on Aperture I now, because once I've thrown my entire library away by accident!!!! Was able to get it back easily from one of the external hard disks.

    Time machine??

    Thanks, Jan

Don't you use Time Machine? One of the best features of the Mac system. Free built-in backup facility for Macs. You just attach an external drive, MacOS says, in effect, "Oh - you've attached an external drive. Would you like to use it for backups?" Say yes and it will back up your computer (the first one which backs up everything inevitably takes some time) and thereafter perform incremental backups every hour which it consolidates each day and each week. If you've got a desktop machine (such as an iMac) you can just leave it attached and forget about it because it will take care of itself. If you use a MAcBook, then you have to remember to attach your backup drive from time to time to let it do its thing.

Here's how, in under 3 minutes.

    Hello Ian,

Thanks for the advice. I've attached the first external hard disk and had to empty it first. But everything seems to have gone okay now.

Still, if COP gives you the oppurtunity to import your images inside the catalog, I've expected they also provide a way in wich it is easy to make a back up from only the library (COP as a whole of course) as I've mentioned before. But, it seems this part is solved in a satisfying way.

    Greetings, Jan
