Catalog/import Confusion
As a new user I am confused by the import and catalog system in Capture One which to me appears to have drawbacks and no advantages that I can see - perhaps I am missing something. My usual editing software did not require this step and this makes things feel unnecessarily convoluted and requires the creation of large catalog files in addition to the settings files for each RAW image.
What information is stored in the catalog files? If you delete them do you lose the RAW edits? What do you do when you want to move files and folders around on your HDD?
Any information and advice concerning these questions would be really helpful.
Hopefully I will be able to get to grips with the import/catalog system but at the moment it is very confusing and unintuitive to me coming from what I am used to, unlike the editing itself which I really like.

Capture One has a lot of good information on the net, including webinars . That would likely be the better way to understanding.
There is also good third party material out there. I use to respond with the link https://www.dtcommercialphoto.com/catalogs-vs-sessions-epic-battle-times/ when the poster appears to be deciding on session or catalog. Now, the session mode may not be available in your variant of the software, you did not tell us.
Click "Help" in the C1 menu bar, select Resource Hub... in the drop down menu and go from there
