If I pull a histogram out from the tool panel, how do I make it bigger?

    You should be able to drag it at the right hand border. As far as I can see, you can make it wider, but not taller.

    I suppose so, though it is more important to see how it stretches out along the scale from 0-255, and where the peaks and troughs are than to see in minute detail how high it reaches.
