Not sure I understand what you are referring to.

Do I have to deactivate, possibly, Capture 1 on my desktop and activate on my laptop perhaps?

My husband is trying to help me and said he saw this in the Capture One manual online.

    Thank you for helping

What LarsH was referring to is in the File menu, there is a command that says Lock Catalog... When you click it, it explains that if the catalog is locked, then multiple users can open it, but can't change it. (So I suppose multiple users could browse it.)

Hello, I am relatively new to Capture One Pro 12, but I am diligently watching all the YouTube videos to learn this software.

I am getting an error message: The session could not open. The session document is read-only. Opening a session requires write access to the session document.
Every session is based on a database file like SessionName.cosessiondb
When you get this error message it means that you do not have permission to write to this file, and hence CApture One, acting as you cannot write ot it either.

With Capture One not running, use Finder to locate the file, and select it. Right click on the file, the select Get Info
This will open the Info window for the file, and at the bottom you will see the file permissions.

According to the error message you have received, the file permission should show that your User ID is NOT allowed write access, likely read only access. This has to be changed to read and write.
You can use the controls at the bottom of the info window to fix this.

I am also getting an error on my catalog: At the top of my catalog window where Capture One Pro displays my catalog name it says it is Locked: Read Only. I am the only person using my catalog. Yesterday I installed a copy of Capture One Pro on my laptop to use in a workshop. This morning I also upgraded my iMac to the latest version of Mohave. I am not sure if all of these things are related or not.

I did a google search and found an article that said to go to the 'Show Package Contents' of my catalog file in Finder and delete 'writelock' file. That file is not in my catalog hierarchy of files.

Does anyone know how to unlock Capture One. Pro version 12.1.3?

I appreciate any help I can get.

    Cheers,
    LuAnn

Let's first check, when you use Finder to select the Catalog "File", and select 'Show Package Contents', that you do see a file ending in cocatalogdb, and.

If you do not see the cocatalogdb file, then you are not inside the catalog file (The catalog is actually a special kind of folder called a "bundle", meaning it normally handled and shown like a file, except when you look inside)

if you are inside the catalog, then check the permissions of the Catalog Name.cocatalogdb file using the Get Info technique I described above. Your User ID must have read and write permssion. Also check near the top of the Info window that the Locked setting is not checked. If it is, un-check it. (If there is a 'writelock' file, its should be deleted)

Now go up in the file hierarchy so that finder shows the Catalog as a file. Again use Get Info to check the permission and lock status of the Catalog. Again, if it is Locked, it must be unlocked. If you do not not have read and write permssions, make it so.

Depending on how you set up multiple copies of Capture One on your network, writelock may still be set. The write lock file may not be shown when searching because it is inside of the database package. If you show package contents of the cocatalog package file, you will be able to definitively check to see if writelock is there. If it is, delete it and you should have write access. If not, the other suggestions may help.

Thank you, everyone, who commented on my question. We have it fixed.

We suspect that when my computers upgrade to Mohave took place that I had Capture One Pro open. It must have affected permissions on my computer to the catalog. We reviewed your comments below, and they took us to examine permissions; we couldn't change from read/only to read/write, so we ended up this time Logging Out of my computer completely and then logged back in. We suspect that maybe that Mohave grabbed a fresh copy of the keychain and that may have corrected the problem. We have no way of knowing exactly. But a complete logout fixed this crazy problem.

Next time I get a Mohave update, I will log out of all my software and let it do its thing uninterrupted.

Thanks again for helping, especially on the weekend. Now I can get my photos to my client. You have made my day!

    Best regards,
    LuAnn
