B&w conversion with C1
Hi,
Black and white images fascinate me and I was just wondering if there was more b&w options available (for download maybe?) than just the yellow and pancromatic filter in styles menu ?
What I´m missing is the green, red and blue filter... Naturally I can do all that in PS but it would be more convenient to get the images straight out of C1
Cheers,

You might could use the color editor to adjust as you want, then save as preset or style. 0 -
Thanks Coach,
...well I tried that allready but didn´t seem to get any results.
I set the saturation level to zero and then in the color editor picked a point in the image and experimented with the levers (as one would do when adjusting a color image) but nothing changes in the image.
Maybe I didn´t do it right, I don´t know...
Any ideas anyone ?
Cheers,0 -
Don't set the saturation to zero in the exposure tool first. Try settings in the color editor first. 0 -
Well I didn´t get any satifactory results with the color editor and after doing a bit research I found this site ---> http://www.jfilabs.com/
Does anyone here use this JFI B&W Toolkit for Capture One ? Is it any good and will it work with C1 5 ?
Cheers,0 -
Hi Vesa.
Didn't know about JFI but will give it a closer look.0 -
Just bought the JFI B&W Toolkit for Capture One and JFI B&W Films for Capture One.
Transaction went smoothly and the download process was fast. And best of all...the icc profiles seem to give some pretty nice b&w conversions 😄0 -

Good to hear Vesa. Maybe you like to keep us up-to-date with your experiences once you had more time to work and play with it. A much heard question is what brings Toolkit versus the Films package.0 -
Well...I´ve done some experimenting and so far it seems that the B&W Toolkit seems give all I need for my b&w workflow... Edit: Strangely...there´s no blue filter for some reason.
The filmpackage works nice too but frankly, it doesn´t seem to give anything that a plain b&w icc (mimics Ilford FP4) profile doesn´t...just some subtle changes...
But then again...the price is quite inexpensive so there´s no reason why not to buy them both.0 -
Thanks for the write up. And it is indeed not expensive. 0 -
Seems like a fantastic product! One of the great things about Capture One Pro 5 including separate RGB curves and Levels is that if you use a BW color profile (either the included ones or 3rd party) you can edit only certain parts of the image by manipulating the color curves. 0 -
I´m now using it for a second day and must say, that - Yes, it is a great product and I must agree with Jon, that Capture One combined with these b&w icc profiles is a awesome package for developing high-quality b&w images ! 0 -
Okay, I bit on this, now what? I copied the files like the readme.txt file says, but how do I now use it in CO? I restarted CO, but do I need to reboot? The instructions are very thin. 0 -
I had the same problem but Vesa pointed me to the right direction.
Copy the profiles to Color Profiles/Common located in your C1 directory.
Then in Base Characteristics choose ICC profiles and Other and the profiles are visible.
You might want to create a Style out of the profiles for easy usage.0 -
Thanks! I had tried copying the files there, but didn't hadn't found where to select them. Yes, styles would make it easier. 0 -
I recently discussed how/where to place 3rd party camera profiles here:
viewtopic.php?p=35173#p35173
Maybe you like to compare it. It basically boils down to place them in the program folder or the user profile folder, each with its pro and cons.0 -

Hi Nando,
No...sorry to say - It is not normal.
The way it should have been is - That immediately after finalizing you PayPal payment there should have been a download window...if there wasn´t something must have gone wrong !
This is what JFI Color labs state in their website:
----------------------------------------------------------
**IMPORTANT** If you have any problems with your download after purchase please contact us at jfimail@bellsouth.net NOT jkeys@live.com this address is only for reciept of payment to our PayPal account. Thank you.
----------------------------------------------------------
Before I bought the product I sent them mail to that email address. No response... And after maybe a week or so I got email from "postfix mailman" informing that my message couldn´t be delivered since such an email address isn´t valid...or something like that.
And this is all I can tell you about this matter...0 -
Nando !
Send me an e-mail to this address ---> info@vesakalervoekholm.fi
I maybe able to help you 😉0 -
UPDATE
I bought the JFI B&W Toolkit for Capture One and I have used the profiles for several weeks. Here's what I've found.
The standard profile is pretty close to the B&W profile included in C1, I prefer the one that comes with C1.
The red, green etc that are included in the JFI B&W Toolkit for Capture One destroys the shadow areas, having ugly noise in the shadow area's. All the varients give this large ugly noise in the shadows, I find these profiles to be worthless.
I tried to contact JFI seven times via email to ask why these profiles are so bad and never got a reply. Tried to contact thru paypal and got no reply.
It appears that I've thrown my money away on these profiles.
