Differences between v3.7 and v4.7

CO4 is a new ball game, with a different interface, new tools, and lots of familiar stuff as well. Why not start with CO 4 yourself?

Unless you have a PPC Mac with Tiger (=not compatible) I would install it next to my 3.7 and go for it. By the way, 4.7 is in the history of CO 4 quite an old release. We are on 4.8.2 now and the program is getting better and stable with every release.

(and I would not use my email address out in the open on the Net; spam harvesters love it but do you love spam?)

I'm on a G5, and Tiger, so v4.8 will not work on my machine? I could upgrade the OS, but it sounds like the processors are the issue. Correct?
    Thanks.

Both are issues, although G5 with Leopard will work though not optimal and not supported. By the way, with Snow Leopard out now, which does not support the G5 at all, I would recommend to upgrade to Leopard asap to keep your G5 floating for a few more years.

Thanks for the suggestion. Much appreciated. As it is, I am actively bidding on Early 2008 Mac Pro's on ebay. Hope to have something in hand soon. Are you seeing any real differences between the speeds on the 2.8 vs 3.0 machines? How much Ram seems to be optimal for running the software? Thanks again.

Expect very minor differences in performance between a 2.8 or 3.0 GHz processor speed in general or with CO4. In case of a Mac Pro, a second or separate fast hard drive for data (separate from the OS X drive) and 4 GB RAM or more would be more recommendable. I use CO4 on a 3 GB RAM MacBook Pro. When running Photoshop simultaneously I run out of RAM regularly.

You're welcome. Keep us posted about your endeavors with your new Mac and CO4 if you like. You will have questions about CO4 anyway 😉. No doubt however you will be successful!
