Problems with Capture One 6
I am thinking about upgrading to Capture One 6 Pro(32bit) from Capture One 4 and I've downloaded the trial version(6.0.1).
My first problem was not being able to see the full picture in the work window of Capture One 6 while using the large font in Windows 7 but then with the latest upgrade the problem was solved.
Now with version 6.0.1, after I have edited my pictures(level, contrast etc) and I am happy with the image I'm seeing on the Capture One 6 window, the processed pictures(JPEG 100 quality) looks completely different then what is showing on the CO6 window. The processed pictures are dull and grayish while the pictures that I see on CO6 are bright, vibrant and at the colours that I wanted.
I only have 5 days left on the trial version and I'm not willing to purchase the software if there are still bugs in it. Is there a way to stop the countdown for the amount of trial days I have left so that I can reactivate it again once you've fixed the problems? I will buy it if it works.
Thanks and Happy New Year to all!

In what software program do you review the JPEGs that Capture One created? What is the output profile you have set in the CO6's Process Recipe?
Your problem sounds like output in a larger color space than sRGB - AdobeRGB for example - but reviewed with a program that does not take that color space into account. Result: dull washed out pictures. But maybe my assumptions are off.0 -
Thank you for your reply. I just ran Capture One 5 Pro and processed the same pictures with the same recipe, i.e. JPEG, 300 pix/in, Scale Fixed etc. and got good results. When I was using Cap One 6 I viewed the photo with Window Photo Viewer and I even uploaded the photo onto a photo hosting web site and got the same "dull" result.
I also went back and processed(with CO6) some old RAW files from my old Canon 10D and 5D the pictures came out OK. However when I processed the RAW from my 5D mk2 I get the "dull" results. Strange....0 -
Strange indeed, but what was your output profile of the 5D mk2 images from CO6...
(because I don't think it is a bug in CO6 but a wrong setting, a.k.a. user error).
I work with 5D mk2 images in CO6 and the results are excellent.0 -
Hi Paul,
You might find this interesting. I went back and play around with the "Output Recipe" and after I change the "Open With" from "None" to "Windows Photo Viewer" I got the processed result I wanted. Now after every picture I processed Windows will launch the photo viewer - annoying! I did not realize that this is an important input or could this be a bug?
Any how I am happy now but will hold off my purchase until I can find out if this is a bug or just my ignorance!0 -
Apparently you do not want to disclose which ICC profile you select in your output recipe, which could lead to the cause and solution (unless I am terribly wrong). Select sRGB and you'll will be fine. It is not a CO6 bug, it is the Windows Photo Viewer. 0 -
ICC Profile has always been "Embed Camera Profile". There are 2 RGB choices and I chose the last one and it works! 😄
Thank you Paul!0 -
You're welcome. The camera profile is, like AdobeRGB, a larger workspace profile that causes this phenomena of dull pictures. Tip: never present a JPEG file on the web with such a profile. Currently, still most browsers and viewers are not or not properly processing the profile, resulting in bad colors/contrast. To be on the safe side, and not be bothered by color management if you don't want to, sRGB is your best choice.
And for everybody else, to embed the camera profile is a very good option to recommend, assuming you have your color management in place.
Enjoy your colors!0
