Specify location of cache in session mode?

As per the thread title, is there a way to specify the location of the cache in session mode? The default behaviour is to create it in the same directory as the images, however, I've a large number of images on network storage, so to improve performance, I'd like the cache (anywhere) on my local drive. I know this is possible with a catalog (which is a route I still might take), but is it possible with a session?

  No, its not something you can change.
