watermarks are inconsistent
Hi. I created a process recipe for jpgs with a watermark. My settings are 100% quality, scaling to 1500 px on the long edge, and applying a watermark at 75% scale and 50% vertical. My processed files are showing all different sized watermarks - some tiny and some splattered across the image. On the screen before processing, the watermark is the correct size and proportion on all images. What do I need to change in the output recipe to have the watermark be the same size and proportion in each image?

It has been a while since Iast did anything with watermarks but, from memory, if you are using Text based watermarks you need to consider the size of the font that you use to generate the content,
There is a limit to how far fonts can be compressed or expanded successfully. So your choice of image sizes and start font sizes may be significant. If you need something that deals with infinitely variable vector graphics from a single starting point .... you may need to search elsewhere.
Unless, of course, things have changed since I last looked into this requirement.

Ok. In general I think the comments about starting size and scaling will still apply along with the position "rules" that are defined - but it has been a while since I experimented with such things.

I gave up and use Photoshop for this lately, watermarking in C1 really could use some 'attention'. 😊 0 -
It was so easy in lightroom. I miss that! 0 -
By the way...
I did manage to get watermarks centered on the bottom edge for landscape, square and portrait as I wanted them following this method:
Prepare a png with you watermark that's 1080px high (or the height of the recipe), width 3000px.
Create a recipe in which you set the height of the image to fixed, let's say 1080px.
Settings of C1:
Opacity: Â50
Scale: 100
Horizontal: 0
Vertical: 0
The fixing of the height was crucial, as soon as this is a changing value 'chaos' is inevitable 😊0 -
Hi,
years ago I discovered C1's watermarking as text for me and YES it's inconsistent (if one may consider it that way) that there's no automatic scaling when output size changes. Such changes may be due to cropping (considering 100% output size) or definition of a certain output pixel count. BUT when the output parametres are set and watermarking of the output is selected then size and position of the watermark is shown in the preview so either parameter can be adjusted according to one's needs before actually starting the output processing. So again, YES, different sized output may require adjustments to the watermark scale - which may apply also for landscape / portrait oriented shots.
I think it might be possible to introduce some general automated default scaling starting from default 100% picture size (cropped) and stepping in when smaller pixel count output is selected so that proportions remain the same. But I'm not sure whether there's (enough) real demand for such a feature.0 -
I think I may be experiencing a similar inconsistency as you. Basically, I think the underlying issue has something to with the watermark's (PNG) PPI. The inconsistency for me can be summarized as follows:
Viewing the watermark in-app within C1PRO 9.0.3 looks great; however, when exported to say—1080 Pixels shortest edge or 100% output, the exported file's watermark does not resemble anywhere from the preview. The watermark shown in the output file shows up significantly smaller and placed in the general locus of the preview shown in-app C1PRO9.0.3.
I have experienced this oddity since version 8 and when 9 came out, I thought the oddity would be sorted out. NOPE! I currently have a case open and I have request P1 Tech Support to have the ticket open, I could find further evidence or repeatability at their test computer at P1.
I made a blog entry detailing my odd experiences: .
If you or anyone is experiencing the oddity and the inconsistency reported, please kindly log into your Phase One account and let Tech Support know. The more data they can obtain, perhaps the watermark issue would be solved in 9.0.4+.0
