1Ds Mark II slow to tether
I've never had great success with tethering both in 3.7, 4, and now 5. I can always get a tether, but the program is very slow in connecting to the camera. When connecting in 4, I would get a beachball for a while and then have to capture an image VIA the program before I could get images to show up as captures. I've recently upgraded to 5.1.2 and when I plug in the firewire I get the "attaching to camera" box for an endless amount of time. I found that releasing my shutter will break the program out of this and ready the program to receive captures, but I'd like a more solid solution for this in case this little fix decides to stop working. I've tried multiple firewire cables, so I don't believe that's the problem.

Have you tried to remove the CF card (or format it if you don't want to remove it) before connecting? 0 -
Paul,
I never have a CF card in the camera when shooting tethered because I find it slows down the image capture. Any other ideas? I know that the Canon tethering driver isn't the best, but I hesitate to blame it on the camera body because I haven't met another 1Ds Mark II owner that shares the same problem.0 -
I cant say for sure ( I havent used a 1ds2 with V5 recently) but with our 1ds3 and 5d2's we need to run 10.5.8 and CO5.0.2 for stable tethering. Pity I found this out after i bought a couple MBP i7's and the hexcore tower ☹️ Now treating my 8core 3ghz and core2duo laptop's with kidd gloves until this is fixed..... 0
