In comparison to Lightroom I find C1 to be mind numbingly slow on image import and export; about 4 times slower than Lightroom! The preview generation alone is far slower than Lightroom's whole import and display. Is there a fix for this??

As a result of the above I find myself falling back to Lightroom for large datasets WHICH I would really like to eliminate.

Not much point in asking this question on a user to user forum without giving more specific information about the speeds you are experiencing.

Firstly not everyone is using LR and those who are are not necessarily using the same version or release.

Secondly what is "mind numbingly slow" to you might be "Incredibly fast" for someone else.

Thirdly you need to clarify whether you are using a catalog or a session to import to - although as a LR user I expect catalog.

What do you mean be 'Large Datasets"? Could you quantify "Large" for us.

Your machine spec. outline suggests it it probably adequate but so much about absolute performance is about the rest of the components and how the manufacturer has put them together in processing design terms.

Do you have "Check for duplicates turned on? If so, so you need it?

Are you importing to a catalog that was new in C1 or to one that has been imported from an original LR catalog? If originally LR, did you cleanse it before importing?

Have you contact the Capture One Support team via a Support Case with a view to having them take a look at your processing experience via the log files?

If not I would recommend to do so but being a weekend don't expect an immediate response!

How does 5 minutes to import 10 Sony A7 III (24 MP) RAW files sound? Slow to you or fast in the Capture One world? About 30 seconds in Lightroom.

I view a large dataset as 50-60 images; about standard for an astronomy session.

The laptop is a gaming configuration and fast for everything except Capture One?

    Not turned on

I have never imported a LR catalog; all new in C1

Not to this point BUT I will if the next release doesn't fix the problem. In the meantime I'll use Lightroom for large datasets and Capture One for 1-10 images.

    Thanks for the comments.

There is obviously a compatibility issue with the installation of C1Pro you have. If your experience were common there would have been a few posts about it 😊

Have you tried a session to see if the same slowness applies. Just create a session and then use File Manager ( I am assuming Windows?) to copy the files you want to work on from there original location into the session Capture folder.

If this is not beneficial you should really raise a support case with Phaseone. They can't fix an individual computer issue with a general release like C1 V13.

OK, now we have some numbers, for which thanks, so something on which to base comments.

I totally agree with IanS who offers good advice.

Yes that is horribly slow and no I would not expect things to take that long on my machine (6 year old Dell Precision with SSD of the era, i7 3820, 24GB RAM and WIn 7)

If you are into reading log files you may find some clues.

What have you tried so far - reboots one would assume. Re-install?

Tried turning the Firewall off to see what happens?

Anything special on the Anti-virus settings that might be over aggressive for some reason?

Assuming you have a dedicate GPU and that the C1 Preferences setting is set at default for "Hardware Acceleration" (Default = On for both values available) - try turning it off just to see if it makes any difference. That is a generic quick check for any issues that might relate to the GPU/driver for which C1 should have generated a kernel on first start up and should be checking that there is one on all subsequent starts.

How long have you had this problem?
