Exported images have grey bars overlaid (bug?)

I'm no Mac person but have read the forums for a while and I would suggest that the quick way to do a first assessment on your problem is to set the preferences for the use of OpenCL to "Never" for Output (or for testing both Processing and Output) and rerun the Exports.

If that seems to cure the problem then check the drivers for the graphics cards for possible updates.

If there are updates, apply them, turn OpenCL back on and try the exports again.

If the problem persists create a Support Case with the Capture One support team. They are perfectly happy to support Trial systems and offer advise or diagnose problems.

    HTH.

It would be beneficial to see an example. However, as a blanket statement just as SFA has pointed out, it would be best to try and turn Hardware Acceleration to Never as a test.

I have reported this to support (case #170282), and included logs, a screen recording of the workflow and resulting problem, sample images and a repro catalog.

The response this far is that this is a known, but rare issue. Apparently others have reported this but you / Phase One have been unable to reproduce it in house. It is isolated to Mac Pros with d700s. Support speculated the issue might be due to rare hardware defects, but the Mac passes all tests (including GPU tests), has and is being used successfully with Final Cut Pro X and Motion, both of which rely almost exclusively on OpenCL and the dual GPUs. Had there been a hardware problem my feeling is that it would have manifested in other applications as well.

I have not heard anything since submitting the repro catalog (two days ago). I have some 20 days left of the trial, and hope to hear back before it ends. If this cannot be resolved I think I will be reluctant to move to Capture One at this point, which is a shame. I tested version 7 last year and decided against it then too based on instability and lack of speed. I had hoped v8 would be solid. :-/

...and yes, this is an acceleration issue. Turning it off eliminates the problem. However, this is not an acceptable solution as we did not invest in a dual d700 system to turn acceleration off... 😉

And we certainly understand that. However it is Apple that controls the Drivers for proper OpenCL integration with the Graphic Cards. As you are using an older OS, is it possible for you to upgrade to 10.10.1, perhaps on a partition, so that you can test Apples latest control of these cards with the current OpenCL standard in Capture One 8.1?

I was under the impression that 8.1 was not suited for Yosemite yet, but that must be old information then. Anyway, I am waiting for a driver to become 10.10 compatible before making the switch. I could do a test upgrade however as we clone the drive frequently so a rollback would be easy.

Are you confident that this is a driver problem, have you had reports from others with the same problem where an OS upgrade helped...?

Again, as Apple controls the cards (not the manufacture) the issue is most likely related to the Driver.
As we have similar hardware here without issue, and other users too have reported proper operation of OpenCl with OS changes, the best place for you to start would be to update the OS.
Capture One 8.0.2 introduced Yosemite Support and, at the very least, you can start by upgrading to the 10.9.5 OS as appose to the outdated 10.9.4, if you are unsure about Yosemite.

I did upgrade to 10.9.5 as a part of trouble shooting with support, and there were no changes.

Would you please have the courtesy of testing the repro case on your D700 Mac Pro and let me know what happens? If you can follow my steps and have that run the process three times without any glitches you have me convinced.

At this point I have nothing invested in the software as such. While we do have production essential software that is not yet fully compatible with Yosemite (drivers for an audio mixing console). So upgrading just to see if a problem in a potential Aperture replacement is solved by the new OS version is not a very attractive "sell".
Especially since Capture One was very unstable last we tested it.

That said, I might consider upgrading to test it, but I would appreciate if support would at least test the catalog I spent time configuring and uploading.

    Hi Dan,

I have been looking into your catalog, but have not been able to reproduce after several hours of bashing it around and following your input (adding more pictures, batch-processing and so on) on a MacPro with 2xD700 gpu's.

I would recommend you trying out on OSX 10.10. You can install this on separate partition, leaving your production-environment untouched for your other applications.

    Let us know your results.

    Thank you, Christian!

Out of curiosity, what OS version does your Mac Pro run? Thanks in advance!

I have installed 10.10.2, and early tests indicate that the problem is gone. I have exported combinations of the images that earlier led to problems, and have done so several times without seeing any errors.

I can bet the problem will return just because I write this, but it does seem as if the current version of Capture One is incompatible with 10.9.x and OpenCL so any users experiencing problems should probably test an 10.10 upgrade.

I will report back if I see any more problems, but I am crossing my fingers here for now... 😊

    Thanks for the help!
