Capture One Express is permanently free but can only be used with Sony cameras and has a limited set of features.
Capture One Pro for Sony adds all the Pro functionalities (such as local adjustments) but can only be used with Sony cameras.
Capture One Pro is the full Pro version and can be used with all supported cameras from various brands.
Capture One DB is free but can only be used with Phase One's digital backs.

You can change the run mode (licence) by selecting Licence in the Help menu.

So in a nutshell, with your Sony camera, you can either use the Express version for as long as you want if you don't want to spend any money, or you can use the Pro for Sony version if you want to use the Pro features (the licence is cheaper than the full Pro version), or you can use the full Pro version (more expensive) if you want to use various cameras from other brands than Sony.

Thank you for the correct information. FWIW, Pro (For Sony) also accepts Phase One-generated IIQ and TIF files (essentially, all the files that DB can handle), though this isn't utilized often.
