importing LR/Aperture catalogs

I'm going slow on trying to import catalogs from LR/Aperture - exporting small groups of images as smallish catalogs to experiment with. First try was a small LR catalog and while it did import, I wasn't given any import dialog box to choose whether it would come in as referenced or managed in C1 8. The rest of my catalog is managed, but the LR stuff came as as referenced. Is this always the case - no choice? Can I convert them to managed?

  I tried importing my Managed Aperture 21K library into C1. C1 crashed. I noticed the images that did import were referenced to the Aperture library. The import dialog did note it was Beta. Hopefully it gets improved. I'll have to convert my Aperture library from managed to referenced in Aperture.
