    Quit
    Rename the app in finder (e.g "Capture One" > "Capture One 8 Pro")
    Relaunch
    Activation/choose run mode should now work.

    This simple trick breaks the licence file's status with the linked application name and should allow you to choose a new run mode.

    Renaming the app in the finder did the trick. Thats such a weird problem!
