Requested Features/Fixes?!
Hi Ulf,
firstly a great thanks for taking this out of Microsofts hands. I hope it will flourish and prosper as it did at the turn of the century. My catalogs are currently over 60000 images and growing. I am using it as my main asset management software as I find it the most simple and best running software on my first generation MacBook Pro (Intel).
I have however three suggestions that I believe would make this software wipe all others off the floor once and for all. I believe they are small changes, but I am not a software engineer, but a photographer:
1. maybe most tricky: find a way to speed up rendering of RAW files.
Previously I used a Pentax and the RAW files where somewhat slower to open than the JPGS. They are of course larger and I have always set Preferred Engine to Apple. Perhaps this is a Adobe issue or down to the manufacturer of the specific camera model. However the current RAW files produced by both the Nikon D3 and D300 are painfully slow to display (in excess of 20sec). Changing the settings from Lossless Compressed to Non Compressed makes no difference. Would be great to have this speedy up. Right now Photomechanic wins here
2. On some occasions I create new catalogues where I copy a selection of files to from my main catalogue. No worries here. However sometimes I need to have bigger thumbnails - hey presto, click 'Command'+Plus and they get bigger. Ok I need to rebuilt the thumbnails, but thats ok. However, they seem to take ages at times. I cannot find out why? Even when selecting around 20 or so files, it still can take more than 5min to rebuilt the thumbnails. Maybe I am missing something here, but if others have the same issue, it be good to do something about that.
3. Currently when using the traffic light to show files from with a specific date, label, rating, keyword, etc there seems no way to 'drill down' further on the selection. I imagine it might be quite straight forward to allow for multiple traffic lights. I would love to select all files from a shoot, then click a date to narrow them further down and then perhaps use the labels to narrow them even further down - without loosing the previous made selection (hope I am making myself clear).
4. Finally, as I work with pairs of JPG and RAW, I have ever since been on the lookout for a way to use the fast display of the JPG's but apply keywords, captions, labels, ratings etc to both files at once. Right now I have to apply it to each file individually (or select two files and then make the changes). It would be great if we could have an option along the lines of: Master file>'JPG with RAW' or 'RAW with JPG' so that they can be managed as pairs. Again something Photomechnic is doing quite well I believe.
Overall I love iView Pro. It works well, feels great, is simple and elegant and really requires no re-design (definitely not the MS way!). I am used to how it works, and know where to find what, so would be vastly disappointed if re-designs would be done.
However what we could do with is a few performance improvements and subtle additions in functionality!
Thanks for reading.

It be great if you could resubmit this as a support case so it can be properly logged and forwarded to the correct people.
