High Fashion Styles
Hey there,
I work professionally as an assistant for some really big photographers and, when on set, I see that the tech’s have a very solid ability to match any effect the photographer or art director desires. You can see these recipes often in fashion editorials. Sometime’s its just pumped up clarity or a magenta tone but sometimes it’s more complicated.
I can’t seem to find any guidance online about how to achieve these effects and it would be awkward for me to start picking the techs brain during or even after a shoot. Truthfully, I just want to privately learn everything I can on my own and not rely on anyone to do me the favor of explaining the tricks of the trade.
Is there a forum or a place I can go to find out how to create advanced recipes in C1?

I think this the place and you could also browse the Capture One forum on Luminous Landscape.
Also take a look at the phase One video tutorials on YouTube.0 -

I think you are talking about styles, right?
Recipe are for outputting certain sizes and formats.
Now, with regards to the toning, the levels tool can really get you a long way.
Try to play with the output levels of red, green and blue.
I.e. use the blue shadow output level to create a blue tint in the shadows, and use the blue highlight output level to create a yellowish tint in the highlights.
In order for this to work, it's important that you have a good exposure. If the exposure is too dark, it will look very blue indeed. If too bright, there won't be much blue at all.
When you have the colors in place, try to fiddle with the RGB shadow output level. After that you can probably give the picture a bit more contrast, and a little less saturation.
As you might have spotted, this is very generic but also very incremental. It's impossible to make a preset style that just fits all pictures with this technique, so expect some amount of per-picture tweaking if you save it as a style.
The technique can be used in every program that has a Levels tool. It's all about knowing color and especially complimentary colors. Search for a additive color wheel image on Google, print it, and have it next to your screen. That will help you quite a bit.0 -
