A simple search by month

I am trying to set up a search throughout my database of photos for all images acquired during the month of January... all years. I am looking for seasonal changes in the populations of animals in them. So far I've managed to get either every photo I've ever taken or none. Interestingly enough, whenever I enter "Date after" 01/01/(any year) it automatically changes it to 12/31/(previous year) which would be okay, but it is interesting that it doesn't do what I'm telling it to. I don't need a computer with a mind of its own.
