    Hello Guys,

i just downloaded the 30 Day Trial of the Capture One and wanted to get started with some Pictures. I take Pictures with a Pentax K-5 in DNG.
But when i opened them with the Capture One, the Colours were displayed kinda strange. The Colours of the JPEGs with the Pentax were normal, just the RAW/DNG werent displayed right. Seems like the proramm adjusted that, when opening the Pics. Any Ideas?

Yes, that simply means the program is functioning as it should as a RAW converter...and that throws a curve to a new user.

I'll try to explain, maybe someone else can say it more elegantly.....so feel free to jump in.

A RAW file contains MUCH more information than an in-camera jpeg...and as you work with RAW files, you'll see the benefit of using all that information. For illustration, try changing the WB on files. You can correct that after exposure in COne, no matter how the camera was set at the time of exposure. You simply can't do that to any extreme with a jpeg...just with the RAW data. (Not to say you should abuse that by not setting the camera correctly..<g>...)

COne is profile aware, important all elements of a managed workflow, so you can calibrate your monitor with a profile, then send the files to a printer that will produce more consistant prints if using a profile. To achieve the profiled workflow, COne generates it's own preview to display while working with the file. It is generally different than the attached jpeg which is displayed initially...because some camera settings are ignored. (and you'd rather adjust the RAW files with your computer horsepower/calibrated monitor than the tiny CPU/led on your camera when you think about it.)

COne applies a profile to your RAW files that gives you a true view of your RAW file, it does not use the parameters set by in camera jpegs (although manufacturer's software applies more of those parameters) so it might look very dissimilar to what you see on the back of your camera. Over time you will realize this is the true view of your file, and you will find the benefits of raw workflow far exceed that of jpegs in terms of image quality. You will also find you can modify the settings in COne so that the previews generated by COne are at least as good as the incamera jpegs...as all the settings you can apply incamera can be applied in COne also.

Hope that encourages you to explore the program more...the end result will be better images for you.

the reason is very simple and very old - C1 does not have a proper and full .DNG support, so switch to .[color=#FF0000:frlak90v]PEF[/color:frlak90v]... if you will bother to search the forum you will find a lot of postings like yours.

try to google first - C1 has a lot of issues w/ DNG files, so it is not a recommended raw format to use in Pentax cameras w/ C1, even if you are using native in camera DNG...

    deejjjaaaa,

as a matter of interest, what happens if you use the K-5 profile?

for .DNG raws the same issue both with V1 (which was copied 1:1 from Pentax K7) and with V2 which was hopefully created in a regular way w/ a real K5 camera...
